Black Widow

Never heard of this game until i hit KLOV, bought it based on hype here. And i'm happy to say that it lives up to its reputation. Full blown vector goodness. Challenging, unique game play with killer sound effects.

Cabinet and Hardware:

Built brand new black and white melamine cabinet
Stripped and powder coated CP, bolts, brackets, speaker meshes, coin bucket, coin doors
New T-molding
New Locks
New Vinyl Casters
Ran out of smooth top carriage bolts for the CP (on order) will replace.

Cosmetics:

Reproduction Side Art (klov djw90) Dan did an incredible job with these, the colors are stunning.

Reproduction Control panel overlay (not sure who made it) clear and crisp graphics though it was extremely difficult to apply to the powder coated CP. Had to redo it 3 times with different methods.

Original Marquee

New smoked glass

NOS joysticks (thanks Pete)

Original cones and buttons

Custom Atari coin bezel inserts

NOS test sheet

Black Widow key chain

Electronics:

Cleanup/restored inside guts: power supply, wire harness, PCB, etc.
Nice crisp monitor (has very light burn but impossible to see under smoked glass)
New Speakers
Restored power supply
Cleaned boards and wire harness
New Power Cord
New Marquee Light Fixture/Bulb
Added a credit button next to counter

I need to find this treasure trove of backdoor sheets/labels!

did you use a tumbler to clean up that coin mech bracketree like that?

Nope not a tumbler, scrub with bleache white and then just a drill with various attachments.

There's a NOS black widow self test sheet on EBay

Wow!! amazing work as always, did you use the original size side art or was it the full size that covered the whole side?

Thanks! I used the original size. The sides of the cabinet are white melamine.

What time do the doors to your arcade museum open up at, & what's the cover charge?

Good work there Fiz. Im telling you, You should replace & correct all the arcade photos on the museum Web site.

Thanks, and yeah there is a just a tiny area on the bottom now that's being stubborn. Will probably use super glue (last resort) to lock it down.

Very nice... Is the cpo coming off the bottom to the right?? or is that a shadow?

:) thanks!

Opening day is a ways off, I have a long list of games to complete. You my friend and many others on here will have a free lifetime membership.

I'd be honored to have my pix used, but I don't think the site is taking submissions. Anybody know?

Just a reminder to any Black Widow fans to sign up for DJW90's CPO and marquee reproductions.

Another Beautiful game you have made!! How do you get your power supplies so perfect looking? The metal and transformer are like brand new! WOW!
Always love seeing your newest game post.
Thanks! :)

Thanks! For the power supply, just strip it down, clean and polish the crap out of it with a drill and attachments. Then shoot it with clear coat to keep it from rusting. The transformer gets cleaned and then painted with heat resistant fireplace or BBQ paint.

Love the pics, wow, a great looking piece of art. I am also fond of BW. I played it once bitd at a huge arcade that was near a beach. My friends and I were actually walking back out of the place when I passed the BW and it turned my head. I played it about 10 times before my friends dragged me away. I never saw another one after that. A few short years ago, I converted a Space Duel to BW and I just love it. I got Dan's repro sideart too and I'm super happy with it. People who haven't played BW do not know what they are missing. It's just a great vector game.

Your machine looks amazing, great job!

BTW, if your CPO has a spot that refuses to stay stuck, my experience is that if you give the control panel surface a quick wipe with Acetone, the CPO adhesive will stick much more reliably. Don't put on too much Acetone because it eats paint but use just enough to completely degrease the surface. Maybe you can remove the panel and get under the CPO with a Q-tip dipped in Acetone. It dries super fast and the fumes can bother you so maybe do it outside or in the garage. I hope it works for you.

If you ever need an AVG replacement for your BW, be sure to look me up (shameless plug).
