Strange issue on my BR. Game plays great and starts right up but after a while the sound will literally start to cut out in a rhythmic pattern about every 2-3 seconds. it will do this even when it's not being played. sitting idle I will get a rhythmic click from the speaker every 2-3 seconds. Doesn't affect the game in any other way, but it will only do this once the game has been on for 10min or so. I was told it may possibly be a capacitor failure, which sounds logical. Re capping boards is easy so I was going to start there, but I was wondering if there is anything else I should check?

One last thing does anyone have a source for a cap kit for a Bally sound board?

Some good info there. I may just pull the board and go over it with a fine tooth comb and see if there are any trace or cold solder joints that could be causing this issue.

when capacitors go out of specification over time
all kinds of screwy electrical problems can happen

I would replace those with new
I find a lot of cold solder joints on those sometimes

remove and test/replace any resistors that look discolored from heat

good luck

see if the amp heatsink gets ungodly hot. I have this on a Creature right now, and as per one of the guides (probably the one linked) it lists some tantalum caps that can go bad and cause this and they're fried from how hot the heatsink got.

there's permanent brown scorch marks in the board.

I reflowed the board this weekend hoping that might fix it, but no luck. I am going hunt down caps next and get those replaced. The board around the heat sink is fairly discolored from the heat of the transistor.

they'll look visually bad I think, at least they were on our board just from the sheer heat.

I've recapped a few monitors in the past and done most basic repairs, but I always appreciate good tips. Thanks!
