Black Knight pinball game boots up OK, but when you put coins in and press start ball does not go into trough. The assembly tries to put it in, but only makes it about half the way before it tries again. Maybe after 10 tries it will put it in the trough. Have changed the coil out on the assembly but no luck. Any ideas?

It's not uncommon for people to change the coil in this kind of situation but truthfully that was probably not going to fix it. Coils don't wear out.

The first thing to do is clean the mechanism and make sure it moves smoothly. Then check the connection for that solenoid at the driver board. If connections all appear good (throughout the game) I would replace the driver transistor (assuming cleaning the mechanism and fixing connectors didn't fix it). I wouldn't have thought transistors can get weak until I saw it with my own eyes in a situation much like this one.

Also check that the arm is hitting the ball square. It often gets bent and hits the ball off-center, with a lot less force.

Eventually I need to replace that whole assembly, it's all floppy and loose, all worn out.
