Does anyone know where I can get a component placement map for the Williams System 7 MPU board?

I read through the guide, but it only shows the component placement for System 3 through 6. I didn't see the System 7 MPU.

Does the schematic follow the layout of the chips? I'm not at home right now, so I can't look.

Jeff

Schematics typically aren't layed out exactly like the board for readabilities sake. Usually you have to find a component and trace it. For example if you want to trace the PIA at the top right of the PCB it won't necessarily be in the top right of the schematic drawing.

Here is a general layout PDF:

Post what you are running into issues with and maybe we can help.

Your best bet will be the paper manual. The online version probably won't have it.

Yup many of the online PDFs are at such a low resolution you might run into issues... some of the type used is way too small and gets blurry.

I actually have the original manual, but it's not in there. The layout that you posted is exactly what I was looking for. The board is not silk screened with the chip #'s, so I had no idea which chip was ic17, ic20 or etc. Thanks

CPU won't boot. Getting "0" at power up. Occasionally I get a 2 at power up. I wanted to use leon's test rom, but I didn't know where to put it.

Jeff

Cool, so that PDF above with the ROM socket placement should help.

Definitely follow Clay's guides.

That is annoying.

I agree 100%. I'm rebuilding a Firepower right now and of course none of the connectors are labeled. I'm trying to find a non-ghetto way of doing this but so far I haven't found one :)

I thought about a labeler but that might look worse than just writing the connector number next to it in Sharpie :)

I've had to figure out which chips are which by using the schematic more than a few times.

If you clean the board with rubbing alcohol it will remove Sharpie ink. Use a paint pen.

Yup you are right. That's why I'm using a Sharpie in case I sell the machine and the next person doesn't want the writing on there. Yup pinball people can be THAT picky :)
