Hey guys, am I a fool for passing on a Black Hole Pinball locally? I like the look of the pin a lot, but is it a fun pin in the long run? I have been offered one at what seems like a good price, but I am finding myself passing due to lack of disposable funds(wife). It hasn't been shopped, needs rubber and some bulbs replaced, artwork and play field look decent, 100% working. I am trying to feel better on passing, so what do these pins command in nice, but un-shopped shape?

I have no clue what it is worth, but it is a nice pin dude. If you can get it for a good price I would say get it. I really enjoyed the one that I got to play on and wouldn't mind owning it some day.

Sorry I can't help you feel better about passing.

I hear ya...I'd love one too.Just have to talk Lindsey out of one...I think he's got,like,5 or so? hehe.I'm tied up trying to buy a Mata Hari off my cousin right now.

700 Clams Burt. And yes it is a sweet-ass pin, but it might as well be 700 million clams at this point in time. I really want one *someday*. I wish someday could be today.

Well, you have half of that coming back to you in cash from me when we do our deal.

I'm just sayin'.

$700 sounds like a good price if the cosmetics are decent. I have had mine for about a year and still play it regularly. It's the favorite of some guests, just an attractive and classic game. The challenge of getting multiball practically gives the game a wizard mode that keeps you coming back.

Black Hole is the shiz. I played it like crazy on the PSP (Gottlieb :pinball hall of fame). I played it quite a few times at CAX too. I love the voice effects and the second playfield. I'd have to say, I'm better at it on the PSP but hey There's nothing like having the real thing.

How could you not like those sounds?

great pin....700 not bad...especially if it's local pickup...one of the better widebodies

Black Hole is a good pin. It has a decent set of rules, good playfield layout, and nice looking artwork. (especially the backglass). I would say it is one the best early 80's pins. The multiball is incredible on this machine- The balls can be on the upper and lower playfield at once! The only down side is that it is a System 80- you will have to do a decent amount of mods, to make this machine relable. Def worth it though!

Well, I shall bide my time until I've got the funds. Things don't seem to be moving very fast in this economy. If it is gone a month from now, so be it, otherwise, it may just be mine. Mods you say? Man I ain't got time for mods at this point either. It is a sweet pin though, the look of it all lit up causes me to nearly faint. I think it is the blue bumper caps that send me over the edge.

I have one. I spent a long time restoring it(mods and touched-up/clearcoated playfield)- I post some pictures later. It's a fun game and I probably play it as often as my other pins (maybe a little less than RS, but more than SOF).
When I do play it, it has a lot replay value, it seems. I never seem to play less than 10 games once I've played one.

As for the mods, don't be surprised if SOME have already been done it. It is working, so they are either done already, or it's just in great shape. The most basic (and most necessary) mods don't take much time to do, it's basically just getting the ground wiring all linked together and replacing a couple big caps in the bottom of the cab.

I bought mine, non-working, untested, in 2003ish for $300. I took it home and foolishly turned it on only to see smoke pour out from the playfield. I did all the mods, and fixed the driver board and got the thing working. Still, slowly over time, I've gone and bought a lot of the new modern circuit boards for it. It now has the new CPU, driver board, and PS board. If it breaks anytime in the next 50 years, I'll be surprised :)

This should get you to buy one...

It still needs new legs, they're too tall. Also, it had a broken drop target (B) in those photos. It's been replaced.

If you had the money, for $700...... that's a really good deal. If you're able to do it, and you really like it, I would go for it. You will be able to get your money back no problem.
