Hi,

I just picked up a BH recently in nice shape but both flippers, one pop-bumper and the GI lighting for the lower playfield are completely dead. I've been trying to discern if it's a wiring thing but I'm a novice at pin repair. None of the ground mods have been done to this machine, it still has the original battery on board (I'll be removing it tonight) but I was wondering if anyone has an idea of what this could be? I saw someone else had posted the same question on the RGP archive but nothing ever came of it.

Thanks,

I checked the Q coil out and it is energized and the switches do work. Not sure where the disconnect is though.

You actually need to check the "L" relay. That is located under the lower playfield. Everything you mentioned goes through that relay. You can activate the relay switch by hand, pushing the plastic spacer piece. If you get lights and power to the flippers/coils by hand, then you need to diagnose the relay coil problem.

Progress! So after an hour of monkeying around, Arcadejerk and I were able to trace the flippers back to a relay where one of the ears of the leaf was broken off. Soldered the wire onto the leaf and viola! Flippers now work.
Now there's an issue with the leftmost upper bumper and the lights/flippers on the lower playfield are not active when the ball drops below. Which relay activates that?

Which relay activates that?

There are 4 relays in BH:
"Q" is the game over relay
"T" is the tilt relay
"U" is the "upper" (playfield) relay
"L" is the "lower" (playfield) relay

As you might guess, for problems with lower pf bumpers/flippers, check the "L" relay. If the "L" relay is fine, you might check for 24V down there ("switched 24V DC" on the schematics).
