bit_slicer's Logic Analyzer Recommendations,Good,LA,Test,Board,Repair,Troubles hooting

These are my picks for logic analyzers under $300. Just my opinions. If you can find one better for less, God bless you.

Wow! That's a $1 per channel! These things have really come down in price since I got mine:

It even has a rudimentary oscilloscope built in. They're not as good as a stand-alone o-scope, but better than nothing:

The ubiquitous boat-anchor. Could use some faster logic analyzer cards though:

These go with the HP 16500A mainframe:

Schwing!:

How many channels? 68 x 5 = more than you'd ever need:

I'd buy that for a dollar:

I'd bid on these, but shipping outside the US seems to be a problem. Is there anyone going to the NW Pinball show who wouldn't mind having one shipped to them for me?

I picked auctions that have already closed. You can find those analyzers consistently for sale on eBay though.

What? No tutortial on how to use one! :)

Heh I need to quit my full-time job so I can do arcade stuff instead! I promise if I ever hit all six digits I'll write the most comprehensive LA tutorial of all time. :D

Now that would be something great to have!

I was playing....but, yeah. His tech logs are very well thought out....and "dumbed-down" enough for most to understand. I liked the one on the Atari -30VDC circuit.

I just picked up a sony/tektronix 338 logic analyzer for $50, it has all the pods, leads and the manual. It has 32 channels at 20 mhz, was that a good deal and will that help fix game boards?

It's kinda like saying, "hey I got this wrench, it is good? will it help me fix my car?"

Is it going to help you fix your car? Maybe. But unless you know how to fix a car, i.e. why it's broken and what steps you need to take to fix it, the new wrench isn't going to do you much good. And, if you knew how to fix your car, you'd already know whether or not it's a good wrench. Does that make sense?

BTW, I know nothing about fixing cars, which completes the analogy. :p

I hear you regarding your anaolgy. I am in the process of learning how to fix boards and like a good mechanic is it not a bad idea to have lots of tools in your tool box. I am just asking those who are in the know more if that is a decent logic analyzer to start with since you have more experience with that tool. I am the opposite of you I know how to fix cars and would like to know how to fix boards like you do so if I can take a bit of info from those in the know it makes the learning process easier.:)
