So my wife has had a room of the house closed off for the past week or so. She said she had something in there for my birthday and I wasnt allowed to go in. So I waited patiently until today (I know I know, my b-day is tomm, but we had her parents over and they gave me stuff early) and she pulled everything out all wrapped up.

They were making a big deal out of one of the presents, but I had no clue what was in it. I could tell it was something interesting when the inlaws grabbed for a camera when I went to open it. So I open it up, and what do I find?

A Hand-made arcade sign, with 8-bit style lettering. She used small cutout tiles that were glued down and grouted to write out "David's Arcade" and made an 8bit Ryu Hyabusa (partly for my favorite nes games being the Ninja Gaiden games, and my first arcade machine being a Rampage converted to a Ninja Gaiden).

What else was in the haul? I also unwrapped the usual type polo shirts and stuff along with another couple gem's in the lot - A Tron t-shirt and a Fluke 117 meter. That meter will come in handy as im trying to teach myself to fix this stuff (probably somewhat to the dismay of the more experienced techs here as ill be asking more questions!!).

All in all, id say its been a pretty good night!!

Love the sign... being hand made like that gives it that great sentimental touch, outweighs any factory made sign by a longshot.

Wow thats REALLY nice. She put a lot of thought and time into that.

Definitly a keeper.

The downside... Now you have to come up with something equally unique
and thoughtful for her:)

Thats gonna be the hard part... I gave her one of those dell duo laptops w/ the rotating touch screen for her b-day 2mo ago, so she was trying to outdo that. This is shaping up to be a rough "keep up w/ the joneses" run....

:)

Very nice! Handmade stuff from your significant other is always cool and special. Some of my most cherished items are Berzerk coasters she made, and a Pac-Man record fashioned into a CD storage box (Etsy project...she bought it for me, but it was handmade).

That's very cool, what a thoughtful great gift.

If you ever make it over here, you can check it out!

I told her last night that I am going to go and get a poly clear coat to protect the thing. Ill put a nice thick coating on it to make sure that none of the tiles ever pop off and go missing. This is definitely going on the wall in my mini-arcade :)

Happy belated birthday, mine is also Aug 30. Cool sign.

Mine got me the DK II kit/hi score save and the Asteroids hi score save. Always fun getting game stuff. :)
