What's interesting about that video is the second clip, supposedly showing Darren's strategy, which was to remove ALL the mushrooms.... Um.. how?? Is there a trick to make the flea stop appearing?

first screen. but i used to trap them on the right side. i remember it taking over 6 hours to get 3 million that way. boring. but when you're like 12-13 years old, you have lots of time. lol

I haven't read this whole thread, so apologies if redundant. I was on a game pickup yesterday listening to "The Junkies" a semi local FM sports show on 106.7 the Fan whatever..

Anyway, between MMA, Baseball and NFL news,... they start talking about Billy Mitchell and this whole story. Then today on another radio show, I hear it mentioned again.

I was thinking damn Arcade shit has definitely gone mainstream and I guess there is no such thing as bad publicity. Twin Galaxies is getting more press for booting Billy than they did with him. Probably a set up for him to come back and break some record or launch a new documentary.

I was pondering this theme today while watching a Netlfix documentary on Usain Bolt.

It brings up an interesting juxtaposition for the TG company.
Jace's big thing with his NBA partner Rick Fox is that video game play should be considered as legit as real physical sports. Not stereotyped as it currently is as a bunch of socially incompetent freekos.

So far after this week, TG can brag that they can get viral toxic media attention. They have produced at least one pseudo-rockstar persona in Billy, who is now branded as infamous by global pop-culture.

But what they can't tout is that they inspire society, they don't have the principled history of dedication, integrity, higher morals...all the things that an institution like the Olympics is so good at conveying in their marketing and branding of their favored champions.

So sure they win global attention this week but it only solidifies that it is an uncomfortable/awkward/kinda slick and slimy genre.

Making money for TG, or Billy will be one thing in this flakey social media driven culture, but rising to the pinnacle of human society about inspiring and exhilarating humanity on a broad cultural level like real physical sports tournaments do. no way. just a freeky niche thing for some dysfunctional gamer geeks, it seems.

I really changed my paradigm this past couple days and it is kind of sticking in my brain today.... I used to not share much in common with people like Roy and Dwayne's view of the Walter-Billy club being invalid....now I kinda understand where they were coming from.

These are all valid points. However, from a business (and brand) protection standpoint, it's absolutely necessary for TG to show that they're taking steps to clean house and restore their reputation - and particularly at this moment in time.

This becomes very apparent in light of their attempts to have video gaming recognised as a sport in its own right. Given that any number of people, groups, and companies have tried to accompliosh exactly this since the '80s and met with mixed (but ultimately limited) degrees of success, they're already facing an uphill battle. But when it's an uphill battle tainted with allegations of cheating, favoritism, and improprieties within the organisation, the chances of video gaming being recognised as a sport by any sanctioned sports body are pretty much nil.

From the standpoint of enlightened self-interest, this also works well for TG by keeping the players happy: ultimately, they generate the data that their business model is built on, and if players start defecting to competing scoreboards because of scores that were accepted under dubious-at-best circumstances, TG is effectively putting a chokehold on the thing that makes it possible for them to exist. It also damages their credibility and reputation in the eyes of commercial downstream consumers of TG's data (such as the Guinness Book of World Records) who may also elect to cease obtaining data from TG.

My gut feeling is that Jace is seeking to grow TG well beyond what it has traditionally been. Whether or not that opinion is correct remains to be seen, but it does appear as though a lot of the groundwork to support that expansion is taking place now. The recent score dismissals and bannings from competition are just one part of that groundwork, but they are ones that are very much publically-visible and sending a clear signal that an unquestionable level of ethics and integrity in all aspects of the organisation are now the expected norm.

We'll see what happens, and there is still a lot for them to overcome. But if they are seeking to be the equivalent of, say, an Olympic Committee for video gaming, then they need to operate to the standards expected of an Olympic Committee, and what we're seeing now are necessary steps in legitimising TG as a board of oversight for competitive video gaming. It just happens to also be good business sense in the interim.

Good summary. The bottom line is that Jace has a successful multi-stream Twitch broadcast system which is recognized by industry in the Hollywood realm.
Rick Fox is an investor who has already shown he'll drop serious cash around the TG/esports topic.
Somewhere in the mix is support by the ultra-wealthy co-founder of Hulu (google "smile time" to see his intentions about changing the movie delivery streaming model).

For better or worse, you won't see business failure in their visions with that much money driving the engine.

I lifted this from the Olympic code of ethics. It could be stated that "media publicity obsessions" by Walter-Billy from 1982 forward have overshadowed and suffocated the higher ethics that would have kept the organizational concept of "Twin Galaxies" from moments like this one now.
It will be interesting to see at what point Jace decides that actively promoting a code of ethics is vital to legitimizing competitive e-sports promotion.
So far when I've talked with him in past he touts the "entertainment power" of conflict oriented human interactions, and the power of money paid to esports competitors.

There's an allegation that Billy and the other gamer you mentioned (Rick Fothergill from Canada) had an agreement between each other, to go head to head on a specific date for the first record perfect Pac-Man score. Both apparently knew each other could do it, and they agreed on said date.

However, Billy, in his true form, shows up to Funspot on Canada Day of all days without notifying Rick Fothergill regarding their gentlemen's agreement, and got the first 'recorded' score (definition of recording being left up to however it wants to be interpreted).

I think Dwayne Richard's videos on YouTube can be a bit delusional and hard to follow, as they are just cut and spliced ramblings of people who are completely immersed in the high score community, but there's a few things that come out of them that are telling--like this particular agreement, if you will.

Neil Chapman and Chris Ayra were also included in the verbal agreement not to attempt a perfect game until they all had a chance to meet in person at another event. Dwayne's video "The Perfect Fraudman" mentions Bill Bastable achieved a perfect Pac-Man game more than once in the 80s, but he wasn't aware of the extra 9 dots on the split screen, and that Chris Ayra tipped him off to their existence. Bill also played with the game set to 3 lives, as did everyone else, which was the default factory setting. Mitchell did his game set to 5 lives and had the TG rules changed to reflect that. The reason for that was, whoever got the perfect game with it set to 5 lives would have the highest score possible; all anybody else could do is tie the score.

It's because...

D. Got caught cheating and doesn't have a plan that involves admitting it or confessing up to it.

So much for your "Neil Armstrong" now, eh?

That argument is akin to saying, "Well, we know you also found the suspect's fingerprints and DNA at the scene, but how do you know someone didn't fake his prints and put his DNA there by some means?"

That's really a stretch.

Hey if OJ can do it...

:D

Billy Mitchell's official statement on his banning and revocation of records has evidently become public:

He manages to really not say very much at all. Interestingly, the statement was made for Old School Gamer magazine here, an organisation which he happens to be an advisory board member of.

Hahahhaahaa

Clown.

Just to clarify where the connections are here.... since putting grandiose names to his circle is actually Walter's gig of creating a stage show around the Billy-Walter show.....

Old school magazine is a recent project by the guy named Ryan who does the Des Moines auction twice a year. Seems like a decent guy.
The other auction guy is Billy's old friend, supplied games back when Billy rebooted TG arcade in town. Very interesting guy named Tom.
Tom is old friends with a couple arcades in Iowa under similar name to the magazine.

Here you go, if you google billy mitchell mgc you'll see this reddit link. Which shows Tom/Billy and the magazine add in the picture.

When I googled I see it already made Milwaukee news- http://milwaukeerecord.com/city-life/billy-mitchell-midwest-gaming-classic-statement/

I didn't really follow what was being said about 35yr old documentation, but another clarification....back in the arcade days things weren't well sorted and stored. Boxes of old TG crap sat in an old room owned by the city for years. I "thought" that stuff got picked up and some of it sent on to Jace before the city tossed it. A handful of years ago the ex-mayor asked me if anyone was going to come and move it, I said I wasn't involved in any of that kind of stuff...

It most likely is just the witness testimony and affidavits he's been trying to say is the proof that his scores are legitimate.

That would likely explain who the owner of the 'Ryan Burger' YouTube account is that the video was posted under. Appreciate the clarification.
