OMG, this is really blowing out of proportion. They were even discussing it here in Toronto on am680 talk radio/news.

Give the guy a break, he's one of thebig reasons retro gaming got so popular. He give it a face. No one is perfect, we all make mistakes, and we all deserve a second chance.

On a scale of 1-10 of bad things that people do, this doesn't even register.

So much more bad stuff happening in the world. So much more terrible things that people do.....

That's the problem.

He's not asking for a break.
He's not admitting to any mistake.
He's not asking for a 2nd chance.

Nothing but denials. So we should forgive him and move on with him never having to admit to any wrong doing?

Naaaaa.

when he's ready to face the music and be real, everyone will be ready to move on with him

The public event at MGC this weekend will be telling for how this plays out.

My guess is that he walks in with the audience of a rock star vying for a glimpse of the Darth Vader of arcades. Probably like Gene Simmons walking into a Comic-con in full costume.

Today will decide if this is a cash cow or a moment of redirection....which I suspect it will be the former.
The one thing that Billy does better than video games for sure, is charismatic attention getting sound bytes. And he'll spin the livin' hell out of the media that is documenting his every word. He'll be on point tomorrow, you can count on that.

The only thing that will throw it off is if one of his coat-tailers is drunk or high and turns it into a $#!+ show requiring security intervention. Which has happened at least one other time in the Walter-Billy history of media circus antics.

When is Billy speaking tomorrow at MGC? I don't want to miss this.

Rogers was a guest at a gaming show right after TG's ban on him. Don't know how that went, other than he's been MIA ever since. Mitchell might get by this weekend's show since most attending might not be aware of TG's ban on him, but I just don't see him benefiting from this in the near future. Being infamous isn't the same as being famous, and Mitchell has certainly enjoyed being the latter for decades. If Mitchell and Day are truly good people in their hearts, then they need to own up to what they did; anything else is an insult to everyone. But IMO the time to do that was a few months ago, when definitive proof of Mitchell using MAME in his DK scores was revealed. It was 'game over' for them right there. Really didn't matter how TG ruled at that point, because the community had made its case. All TG's ruling did was put a huge spotlight on it.

I saw that video and he never mentioned a time. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

There's your answer. Only MAME can generate that exact frame of graphics, and only MAME versions 0.116-0.121 specifically. And what do you see? The exact frames from Mitchell's original tapes.

Every version of MAME from v.121 (2007) dating back to at least v.56 (2001) shows the 3-girder-with-a-finger transition frame which exactly matches the transition frames on Billy's Tape, as well as other transition frames for other levels. For versions prior to .116, the finger appears when you set the refresh rate to 60.6 Hz to ~match the arcade refresh rate (starting in .116 the refresh rate was set to 60.6 Hz by default), and/or setting the CPU speed to 99%.

Being infamous isn't the same as being famous, and Mitchell has certainly enjoyed being the latter for decades.

Conor McGregor comes to mind. His news seems to have disappeared from the general public once he flew back to Ireland.

Wow, so I have always considered the Twin Galaxies idea a bit of a nerd joke. And the idea of using a video game score as defining one's position as a quality human being in society a complete corruption of humanity.

BUT the viral public pop-culture attention the Dragster and DK dispute thing got really did let Jace Hall define Twin Galaxies as a "perceived authority" (use of the phrase taken with a grain of salt) about games. Every news source has picked up on that specific sound byte and now it isn't even questioned in all the news topics.

For example, if you google billy mitchell today NPR is one of the top stories to appear.
https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo...cking-twist-scandal-fells-donkey-kong-royalty

Whatever parlor trick that Walter started in February 1982 by getting a local Defender player into the newspaper.....Jace just took it to the stratosphere.
Jace said his vision was to make Twin Galaxies the center of the multi-billion dollar esports industry......it kind of looks like he is well on the way to getting business executives to stand at attention that they have media savvy.

Around my house, my family is kept at a distance from all arcade stuff other than playing the machines I make for us. The Billy news came up in a FB feed of my son-in-laws yesterday so he was asking about it, who Steve W was. they've never seen King of King, Chasing Ghosts, or MvS. And after I explained how Walter and Billy got a launch for their touring publicity he simply said...oh that explains the goofy hair cut. (he saw Billy at an arcade last fall and had no idea who he was...he later asked me at home....what was with the tall dude with the plastic hair). Then later in the day he says to me......you weren't involved in all of that cheating were you? No, F No, geesh!

And my wife who knows Billy...and still argues his hair isn't real....which I tell her I'm sure it is. The other day the oldest son who is a Gamestop era gamer sends a link to the Billy news in our family text message. So I Fn had to explain the weirdness of it all to my family, for gosh sakes. and my wife....later in the day when she reads the texts comes into my office and starts laughing about the irony of it all. and I hear her continued chuckling in the kitchen and she mumbles....life is what happens when you are planning something else.
update- so my wife is making pancakes for the grandkids this morning and she quizzes me about why the Billy stuff is news again. I explained the KoK storyline again. She says this happened when Billy was young, I said no this is adult stuff. and she gets a repugnant look on her face and says why would a grown man lie then stand up and say they did something. and as I'm typing this she is still processing it....she just yelled in....Was Walter aware of this? I was honest so I shouted back, yep, more than likely.

So whatever the F trainwrecks happened here, which was apparently a slow burn to the end of the rope.....it sure as heck caught the public eye.
Never have I had to explain the nerd TG stuff to my family before this....well except for when I was a kid and my parents stopped by the arcade and out of the blue Walter asks them if I can quit school to go to Boston to join a video game circus....they still laugh about that on occasion.

Not sure why the other Billy Mitchell thread got closed, but I'm quoting a post of yours from it (https://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=419661&highlight=centipede+ginner&page=4):

If you read this article you would think that Twin Galaxies was truly the center of the universe.
http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com...rson-to-become-world-champion-at-video-gaming

But what you don't read in that article is that is purely a pitch for TG, little based on historical facts.
There had been major Pacman championships where people won arcade machines, there had been Defender championships such as the 7-11 tournament, Space Invaders had massive tournaments and championships.....etc etc etc.... even Eric Ginner had won a big Centipede championship in 1981 well before Ben came along to Ottumwa.

So why were those not part of the Guinness storyline? Because they were before TG and Walter, therefore the story couldn't be woven as TG-centric.

Here's a video clip of Walter Day talking about Darren Olson and Eric Ginner about Centipede strategies, so Eric certainly became 'TG-centric':

https://vimeo.com/groups/1519/videos/1163707

What's interesting about that video is the second clip, supposedly showing Darren's strategy, which was to remove ALL the mushrooms.... Um.. how?? Is there a trick to make the flea stop appearing?

Btw, the Guinness page you referenced refers to Ben Gold as the first world video game champion" but then mentions he won the U.S. Video Game Olympics at TG, so no, not a world champion. The first World contest that I know of was the Atari 1983 Centipede World Championship, which was held on September 15th, 1983 in Munich, Germany. Stuart Murray (from Scotland) and Andrew Brzezinski (from England) won for their age groups. Here's my inteview with Doug Leighty, who won the U.S. Championship and was runner-up at the World final:

A friend mentioned there has been MGC talk on Twitter.
Twitter report says Billy is selling mame tshirts with an american flag tie and charging $40 per photo-op.

Ufff-duh. Welcome my friend welcome to the social media machine. Where have you been...it's alright we know where you have been.

Well Coinopper whatever positives I may have tried to convey in prior jabber I can ensure that this stuff has made me feel much less of whatever regarding the billy-walter-tg antics. Hey now, I'd probably buy a Tshirt with Roy S. and Dwayne on it and referencing King of Kon....

To those buying anything from Mitchell (including his b.s.), the saying "A fool and his money are soon parted" applies. Or is it "A sucker is born every minute"?
