Twin Galaxies has dropped an announcement this morning, read it in full here, if you like; Clicky Clicky

If you just want a "short" version:

It seems the hardware claimed by Billy Mitchell that was used to record his DK scores aren't quite working. The converter is outputting a signal that isn't recognized by most VCRs, and on those that it does work with, are only seeing B&W recordings.

How shocking.

Just replace the woman with Walter Day, and the snake with Billy Mitchell.

On her way to work one morning
Down the path along side the lake
A tender hearted woman saw a poor half frozen snake
His pretty colored skin had been all frosted with the dew
"Poor thing, " she cried, "I'll take you in and I'll take care of you"
"Take me in tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman, " sighed the snake
She wrapped him up all cozy in a comforter of silk
And laid him by her fireside with some honey and some milk
She hurried home from work that night and soon as she arrived
She found that pretty snake she'd taken to had been revived
"Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman, " sighed the snake
She clutched him to her bosom, "You're so beautiful, " she cried
"But if I hadn't brought you in by now you might have died"
She stroked his pretty skin again and kissed and held him tight
Instead of saying thanks, the snake gave her a vicious bite
"Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman, " sighed the snake
"I saved you, " cried the woman
"And you've bitten me, but why?
You know your bite is poisonous and now I'm going to die"
"Oh shut up, silly woman, " said the reptile with a grin
"You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in
"Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman, " sighed the snake

Why am I reading this with Donald Trump's voice in my head? Lol

Looks like the hammer is going to drop(pun intended) today or tomorrow.

His camp is now threatening lawsuits as their last gasp. It's delicious to watch.

Unsurprising... DK uses non-standard syncs, and it's unsurprising that that'd mess up the colorburst when converted to NTSC.

Makes one wonder why no one ever put that together before now. Did nobody else attempt the same set up before now, even just to submit their own scores?

Because anybody else would simply use a camcorder to record an arcade game. Using MAME and trying to pass it off as "direct feed" arcade footage tends to make the recording process somewhat convoluted :)

TG made "direct feed" recording against the rules quite a while ago, so there was no reason for anyone to put such a setup together before. I shitcanned a board design with a feed through RGB + NTSC conversion after that.

Wow.... I did not know that. Was that decision made during the years that Billy Mitchell had a financial interest in TG? I'm assuming it was made after the KoK movie came out, as that was the tape he sent in.

I never really followed TG, as I knew I was never good enough on any game to get a record. Most I've done is read a few threads that were linked here, and looked up the best dip switch settings to use on games that I have.

The whole thing sounds like a squabble between a bunch of nerds in a comic shop over which super hero is best. Outside those 20 people, the rest of us could care less.

What I want to know is why no one has ever questioned his "perfect" Pac Man score. Are there any recordings of this happening and has anyone else ever been able to do this??

People are questioning it now. As far as I know, there's no recordings of his performance. IIRC, there was a 'race' between him and another gamer (from another country) to be the first to officially claim the 1st perfect game. But I think everyone realizes now that the majority of those at the top of the TG 'food chain' were corrupt and their word is meaningless, and this includes Walter Day. As the saying goes, proof or it didn't happen.

There's an allegation that Billy and the other gamer you mentioned (Rick Fothergill from Canada) had an agreement between each other, to go head to head on a specific date for the first record perfect Pac-Man score. Both apparently knew each other could do it, and they agreed on said date.

However, Billy, in his true form, shows up to Funspot on Canada Day of all days without notifying Rick Fothergill regarding their gentlemen's agreement, and got the first 'recorded' score (definition of recording being left up to however it wants to be interpreted).

I think Dwayne Richard's videos on YouTube can be a bit delusional and hard to follow, as they are just cut and spliced ramblings of people who are completely immersed in the high score community, but there's a few things that come out of them that are telling--like this particular agreement, if you will.
