Honestly curious, but why does it bother you so much? I can think of a lot of other things on here to get spun up about but this is certainly not one of them.
I like reading the forum posts for new and interesting content. When someone bumps a really old thread, it brings outdated info to the top of the feeds.
That's why.
I get that, I guess for me it's just not something to lose sleep over. I just notice it really seems to bug you and was trying to figure out why.
I don't lose sleep over it. But it does annoy me when I'm scrolling through "new threads" and stumble across it.
Rather than just tolerate it (which doesn't fix it), or bitch about it (which also doesn't fix it), I just report the posts now. That's the only way I know how to TRY and remedy the problem.
Of course, there are some folks that would say, "just ignore it and move along." Yes, that's an option too.
Sometimes I find it useful, especially if I've never seen the thread before.

At least in this case, while no new info was actually added, it did expose the older content for those who hadn't seen it before. It was semi-relevant, as it pertained to Mr. Hot Button Topic himself.
No, bitching about it doesn't fix it, but ever hear of the Boy Who Cried Wolf? Best option, unless it's being done to purposely cause mayhem in here, is just let it go and ignore it. "Change the channel", as George Carlin would say. The reason I mentioned the Boy is that, if you report enough posts that net no results.... you're going to be ignored by the admins(or worse, suffer some sort of wrath).
I've got nothing against you, but (just like on Social Media platforms) reporting posts for silly/stupid reasons just makes you look like a "snowflake". I figured you'd know I was trying to be light hearted with the "tough guy" comment. Now, you see a legit reason(racism, porn, spam, etc) to report posts, and I'll be right there with you.

I was trying to create mayhem. How much longer can we beat this Billy Mitchell saga to death? Someone said that there was only two Billy Mitchell threads and one of them was locked. So, I wanted to see more of him. I just replied to some old threads with relevant information. Hopefully this will lead to Billy Mitchell overload and he can just go away.
You failed at that, but did just manage to let us know that you love to stir the pot. Duly noted.
Coupled with the above admission, you've pretty much just destroyed any credibility you may have been trying to convince us that you have.

General discussions are opinions and repair issues are based on facts, so what does one have to do with the other?
