Billy Mitchell Donkey King scores possibly from MAME?

Let's make clear what the TG intention is which is loosely paraphrased.....
Twin Galaxies is pursuing esports domination to be the source of all.
Real sports has a component of "constant heated conflict."
Therefore that would mean constant heated conflict at tg is proof that video games are real sports.

So welcome to how it will feel in the new era of competitive video games if it is linked to the name twin galaxies. Enjoy.

And people thought it was crazy in the 1up era.
Need a meme with evil laughing.....baby you aint seen nuthin yet

Update- First google hit!

I'll say this, sometimes we forget that more public figures are actually people. Think about what Todd's life must be right now with every news entity, blogger, family members etc etc beating down his door wanting to call him this that or the other thing over some crap from 1982 when he was a kid playing video games. These are 50 somethings like many of us with families, kids etc and now I can't imagine the mess that must be day to day life with everyone from CNN to joesarcadeyoutubeblogsite.com calling every minute of the day calling them frauds and cheats etc. Hell, billy hasn't been a top ten or even relevant donkey kong player in years but without that one movie he'd still be top two.

Just to be clear I am personal friends with billy and todd as well as plenty of people that dislike them very much or simply don't care.. that's cool. I wouldn't go on any kind of mission to tear ANYONE down like that. I personally am not nor have I ever been a high score chaser or even a good player for that matter but I work really hard to promote retrogaming and do good things for the community and good god I hope nobody finds out what I did to my socks in 1978.

Random thought which may be been addressed if I researched the investigation more: Is the rendering of the DK screens consistent across all versions of the hardware? Is it possible Mame is correctly emulating a different hardware version?

You will get no sympathy here. I suggested people are more important than games or scores in the todd thread and it wasn't well received.

This is the third toxic tg thread in like a month now? Lets call it KLOtgV.
Or call it KLOredditV

Can't say I care. The whole movie King of Kong was a load of BS from start to finish, but it was entertaining, made household names of a bunch of gamers and restarted a much broader interest in retrogames. Without that, nobody on earth gives a darn about donkey kong, dragster or anything else for that matter except the likes of people on this forum. The number of events, contests, toys, games, arcades, barcades etc based upon classics has exploded in the last 10 years because of those that work hard to keep it alive. It pains me to see people from any aspect of the hobby tearing each other down usually driven by personal garbage. Just my 2 cents. Nothing good comes of this.

Yes, some people on Earth still cared about old games long before KoK and all the scandals, but if cheating is acceptable if the result is mainstream attention, that's a sad commentary about TG. Yet you seem to have more of an issue with those who 'out' these cheaters...? When you built a house in a swamp, don't blame the exterminators for failing to remove the infestations.

Regardless, I don't even see how the adage of any press (bad or good) is good can possibly apply here with them. The unfortunate part is, how much attention did these fakes get that others deserved?

Taking out the emotional bias, if you think about games, in 1982 there was no social connection other than physical at arcade and a monthly magazine or two.

In mame era of mid90s to early 2000s, it was just starting to create groups of people as the internet switched from slow dial up/AOL to faster bandwidth mediums. Newsgroups became forums, etc.

In 2018, I just don't see how any one place is the center of a community for games. There are probably 100 thousand video game related groups on FB? Each game company has a proprietary score list if they have one. and people of like minded game interests form little social groups or sites, ie donkey kong talk at donkeykongforum. the internet affords the luxury of fragmentation.

Right now in my living room, 3 adult kids in family are playing 3 switches and completely engrossed in Rocket League. They are having some kind of silent communion with other teams all over the world and it says there are over 80,000 people online playing the game. I've not heard anything about high scores, but I hear them mention points for assists and if they are going to play another team after the team is too difficult, or too easy. That's some powerful psychological shizznit if you turn that into marketing flow.

But TGs game is massive viral attention to draw in hits. That stuff looks great on paper when you are in a business meeting proving the virility of what you are peddling.
People by name, and people's joy or happiness about gaming is COMPLETELY irrelevant to the goal of the machine that is churning into action.

The Robotrons are whispering their electronic lullaby in our ears, and it is still a good 66 years ahead of time. How do you think the Robotrons end up winning, it has to start well before the war.

Anyway it is friday night....son of a bitch, give me a drink!

I think everyone in the hobby knows that likely 80% of the classic game records are bogus as most of the records were posted or sent in by then 12-14 year olds and there were no real means to say it was real or not. I don't defend anyone in this case either those bringing the complaint or those on the receiving end. Either way in time none of it leads anywhere good. oh well, let the hate flow :)

Like I said in another thread.. just a sign of the times.

Interwebs make it way too easy to just be a dick and not care about the consequences.

"social media" has bred this giant culture of whiners, snitches and busybodys with nothing better to do then bitch all day and not look in the mirror.

I felt that when I watched a youtube video on todds scores today. His life seemed pretty sad in chasing ghosts and obviously these scores mean a lot to him. I think all his scores were wiped and he cant submit anymore? That along with everyone calling you a fraud and a cheat over meaningless scores on meaningless 35+ year old games, gotta be shitty.

Agreed again.

Think how much of a hater you have to be to find someone who's really good at something you're not really good at.... and get all pseudo scientific when you attempt to discredit them because you saw a fictional movie in which you the customer PAID Billy Mitchell to play a bad guy in.

Not only does he have their money, he's got a permanent spot in their head....

Well the problem is the Billy's cheating apparently happened in 2010, not 1978 or the 80's. This isn't something far in the past and he has profited immensely from what can arguably be called fraud. His situation seems less egregious than Todd's though. I have little doubt that Billy could put up the score in question. Todd has been caught claiming to do something that isn't even possible on multiple games. That's slimey and pathetic. Trying to deny it after being caught is even more pathetic.

Obviously, nobody deserves to be threatened or any other crap like that. But being embarrassed and shamed? Absolutely.

Don't want to be embarrassed and shamed? Own up to it and issue an apology like you should.

I personally do not believe that the folks digging into these old scores are doing it to personally attack any one individual. It's being done simply because they don't want the lies to keep being put out there as Gospel.

Those who have made a living off of these lies, all I can say is "What did you expect? Did you expect to never have to own up to the deceit and just continue to live off of that ONE achievement the rest of your life?"

To those who have sympathy/empathy for Todd and Billy, and more particularly Todd, what do you say to the guy/gal who actually got a legitimate record in the game but NEVER got invited to speak at conventions, NEVER got his/her name in the limelight if even for a second, NEVER got any free swag, and NEVER got any attention because a liar's fraudulent score was considered "the record"?

Obviously, nobody deserves to be threatened or any other crap like that.

It's doubtful there's any truth to him or his family being threatened. That came from Todd, the King of Lies. Besides, he claims people on Facebook did that. Well, his Facebook page isn't public, it's private, which means it would have been people he chose to add as friends: https://www.facebook.com/todd.rogers.7967747

Exactly. Redemption starts with an admission. I doubt Mitchell will, either, but time will tell.
