We all know that SF2 and Mr. Do were big money making kits, but what else did well? There seem to be a ton of Arkanoid and Capcom Bowling conversions around, but did they bring in good money? What about the various Pac/Ms.Pac kits or Vs. kits? JAMMA kits and whatnot? We always talk about what was converted to what but which ones actually did better than what we call classic games?

Arkanoid was my first thought.

On a different note, i wonder what cabs were converted the most. Pacs, obviously with the amount of them made, but i've see quite a few Defender cabs converted too.

I saw tons of Final Fights BITD, along with Shinobi, 1943, and Neo Geo machines. I'm sure all of those netted some good income when they were new.

I can think of nothing better of an example than Arkanoid. Street Fighter 2 went on with sooooo many versions that it's hard to pinpoint conversion blame on any one version. But Arkanoid, with it's single button and spinner, was far easier a hack job for operators.

I've seen a fair share of 1942 and 1943 conversions, as well as Mortal Kombat and Shinobi hack-jobs.

I've seen quite a few Tetris Hellcades....

...newer, but what about the shooters like Area 51?

1942 and Arkanoid were the most that I had seen, then Tetris. Did not care for Tetris, but dropped a ton of quarters into 1942 and Arkanoid. Also saw quite a few Defenders turned into Bubble Bobbles.

Yup,Arkanoid has to be way up there. Mine is in a stargate cab maybe converted soon to the for sale section LOL.

For me it was Police Trainer. $1200 dollar kit that stayed in my top five games for years.

When I worked for an op in the late 80's we were installing Vs kits into Pac cabs at the rate of about 10 a day for maybe 3 work weeks. The installed game was vs Super Mario in all of them and they all did great.

All of the games mentioned in this thread did really good bitd. We used to get 10 kits or so a month that were random whatever games but some of them did fantastic.

I don't think there were any legal Ms Pac conversion kits...Midway only sold them as complete machines. The upgrade kits they sold were Pac-Man Plus and Jr Pac-Man. I don't even know if there were any dedicated Pac-Man Plus cabs. Jr Pac was sold in factory converted Mappy cabs, but they're pretty rare.

Pac-man plus was only a drop in kit. Jr. Pac-man came both as a dedicated game and a field kit.

Rygar was a kit game but required a new harness, but there was one in every arcade I played in, I remember my favorite machine sat next to a food fight and a Zoo Keeper, those titles sat idle and there were always quarters lined up on the Rygar machine...thats probably why its so near and dear to me...
