I've read several different places that Pac-Man had around 96,000 units produced. Somewhere else said over 100,000. Recently I read(can't remember where) that Ms. Pac-Man had 117,000 units produced. Can anyone put this to rest for me? I find this kind of thing interesting and just want the real #'s if anyone can enlighten me....

I was just trying to find info on Scramble production numbers but google didn't have much. It is really interesting to know how many of each arcade game were produced. It would be neat to have a list on klov somewhere with that info.

Space invaders has to be up there. There were entire arcades dedicated to them and the machine cause a shortage of yen. I've seen 100,000 as a number being tossed around for Taito cabs. Not sure about the bally midway cab numbers though.

Here's what "The Encyclopedia of Arcade Video Games"(by Bill Kurtz) says about Scramble production numbers:

Stern produced 13,486 uprights starting on March 16, 1981; and 1650 cocktail models beginning April 27. Page 114

I read somewhere that U.S. production(Midway) was around 55,000; which was beaten by Asteroids later on with 70,000 units...

Also read that worldwide production for SI cabs was 350,000 units. Although I have no proof to back this up. I suppose its probably fairly accurate.

I believe Ms Pac is the best selling game in the USA. 120,000 urpights, cocktails and cabarets combined!

Well, here are some Atari production sheets:

Centipede is tops with 46,062, and it was nowhere near as popular as Ms. Pac-Man.

Here are some more numbers. Not sure which are confirmed and which are estimates:

Tops is Ms. Pac-Man at 115,000, and that's uprights only, not counting cabarets or cocktails....

Thanks for that info dude...

Just guessing I would say Space Invaders would have had the biggest production run, with both Midway and Taito producing the game. How about Donkey Kong, it must of had a large production run.

I think we'd be talking OFFICIAL production, right? Add in all the clones, and games like Pong and Space Invaders would blow everything else out of the water...

There were clones of SI and Pong????? what??? ;)

Next, I suppose, you are going to tell me that Donkey Kong was cloned also..... ;)

I think mrs. pacman was the #1 highest number of units ever produced for a coin operated game.

117000 was the "popular" number floated around, but may have been much more.

Asteroids outranks Centipede if an official sense. By about 2000 uprights IIRC. I've also read in more than one place that the true number of uprights was closer to 65-70k. There was some kind of numbering change going on at the time so the exact tally is uncertain. Factor in cocktails, minis and it's pushing 80k. Oh plus those 200 Lunar Lander conversions. :p

I'd say it has to Space Invaders for the top spot. Gotta be.

I wish we could use serial #'s as a basis for cab production, but since some companies didn't start at one, and others just gave a cab the next number available, even if the title was different from the last cab so assigned.

And I think cabs produced for overseas were number differently, too. Tempest UR's are listed as having about 22000 units. I have two. One is definitely American, with a number of 19000-something. The other appears to be an Irish version, with a number of 112000-something...

Last of the Space Invaders production run

Back around 1996 I bought out a distributor in Eldon, MO consisting of about 400 arcade games and pinballs along with all the parts department. Among the games was a brand new Midway Space Invaders in the box. We cut an opening in the front of the box to view the cabinet. Just above the coin door was a little 3x5" brass plaque stating "This is one of the last 10 Space Invaders produced". My memory could be wrong but the serial number stamped on the back top edge of the cabinet was 34,997. I was stupid for selling the unit for $400 to a pinball collector out of Colorado. :(

I wonder how many Gold Tee machines were made considering they are still being produced today.

I can't believe only 750 I, Robots were ever made. I thought it was at least 1,500.

Sinistar's around the 3,000-5,000 unit range, I think.
