Hello all, I am a newbie here trying to work on some old cranes left over from a arcade I was involved in over 20 years ago, not a machine tech by any means. I have a Big Choice that worked perfectly until I cleaned everything, now the carriage wheels just spin and it does not return home. May have made a mistake using light machine oil during the cleaning. Any suggestions on how to remedy. Also, marque lights do not work, would appreciate any help

Mostly solved the marque light problem, all are working except 2 of them. Still cant get the carriage to return home without assistance, appreciate any suggestions

Any one on here that can help, need suggestions on what to do about the carriage not getting any traction on the rails, it stops and goes, sometimes just stops with the wheels spinning

Make sure something isn't preventing the wheels from actually making solid contact. Check to make sure any rubbers aren't worn for grip. It could also be a weak motor, perhaps.

If you oiled the rails and the wheels..it's not going anywhere.

Do your best to wipe all of it off the rails and where the plastic wheel meets the metal.
You might be able to use some very small rubber bands..like the kinds kids with braces use...wrap one around each wheel so the rubber meets the rail and report back.

that machine usually has a light controller board up top near the cabinet lighting.
the front lights are also specialty bulbs.

no oil on the metal rods or wheels. It all needs to be very clean and dry.

Big Choice Crane Issues

We Used To Own 2 3bay Big Choice Cranes in the arcade we worked at for many years...

the usual upkeep was to clean all steel rods the drive mech sat on with rubbing alcahol from front to back and make sure they were completely clean of dirt & dust and rubber film from the drive wheels, then we would inspect and clean all drive wheels that either had rubber drive wheels or rubber drive bands on them..if they were glazed over we would scrub them clean or contact BETSON to get replacements...most of the time if you keep the drive rails clean and the drive wheels clean it will work like a charm and Never OIL the rails...that will only give you issue after issue...if you have to use any lubricant...use Dry Silicone Spray or whatever your Manual Suggests...that way you know your doing it the Right Way :)

Schematics For the Betson Big Choice Cranes Can Be Found Online as Well as Maintenence Procedures for Big Choice Cranes :)

hope this Helps :)

Good Luck ! :D

P.S. I found this....see if it helps you folks any :D
