Howdy. I've been asked to look at a Big Buck Hunter; I don't work on arcade games often and I don't particularly like to tinker with CRTs, but here we are. I skimmed through the first page or so of the "Basic monitor information..." thread but didn't notice anything that sounded like the issue the game is experiencing. (I was hoping I could find a nice database of CRT issues with pictures so I would have a starting point. I couldn't find anything, if you know of one let me know!) All I have to work with is the picture I'm attaching and I know it doesn't register (the screen flashes when pulling the trigger, that's all). The only thing I've tried so far is cleaning the contacts on the main board. I'm betting the issue is old capacitors, but it isn't really based on anything. I foolishly did not take note of the model of the monitor, I can try to get that soon... if someone is able to identify the issue I can at least try to do some more research.

Did you try adjusting the monitor and then recalibrating the gun? Most gun games have a calibrating screen in test. Or the gun has been dropped too many times and is broken.

monitor model would be very useful lol

you have an array of issues with the monitor that are most likely cap/solder related. it's one of those things where I need it in front of me.

Gotcha. We figured the line issue was causing the gun issue, so I was hoping someone would recognize the line issue and I could go from there. I should be able to get the model info on Wednesday.

I believe Big Buck hunter is a medium resolution game so the monitor works different than standard res games, however in terms of workings and how it's built is about the same

It looks like it needs a cap kit, when caps start losing power and dying, the video starts to act up, here's what I do:

1. Turn off the power (duh.)
2. Take the monitor out of the machine, or if you can reach the back of the monitor from the inside then leave it in, that's fine, but you do whatever you think is easier.
3. Discharge the monitor using any sort of discharging stick or, most commonly used, a screwdriver with ground clips, simply clip the screwdriver to one ground clip, then the other side connect it to anything metal like the monitor frame.
4. once ready, discharge the tube by sticking the screwdriver under the "suction cup" on the top rear of the tube.
5. once fully discharged, take out the suction cup (it won't shock you), then take off the "neck" motherboard on the glass neck.
6. unplug anything you have to and take out the chassis (crt pcb)
7. 2 options: first option is to do it yourself and buy caps online, de solder all or as many caps as you can, resolder new caps to it. Second option is to take it to an arcade expert and have them do it.
8. once done, just plug everything back in and not only should it fix the problem, but also greatly improve the picture quality.

also when replacing the caps, try also replacing the flyback since those usually start drifting and or just crapping out on you.

And I thought the "lines" were a reflection of your garage door. Like others said, looks like maybe you need caps.

It's a Big Buck Hunter II: Sportsman's Paradise with a Zenith monitor. A label says the tube type is A68AEG25X07. Not sure if there are other markings but that and the serial number were all I could see without removing it.

this is the tube. it has nothing to do with the electronics that make it a monitor for an arcade game. take a picture of the back of the monitor and post it.

Ah, ok. Sorry, the only other one I've looked at in a game had a tube and chassis from the same company (Makvision, I think) so I didn't realize they weren't necessarily matched like that. I know there weren't any markings underneath the base the chassis is mounted to. What I assume is a serial number label on the chassis is the only other marking I can see in any of the pictures I got (guessing it's a Wells-Gardner based on the WG?). Unfortunately the game is in a pretty tight spot with limited room to move it but I'll see if I can get anything better next week.

I don't imagine these are of any use are they? Seems like the best I can do without removing stuff.
I did at least connect an LCD monitor and it looked fine so it's definitely a display issue.
