Big Blue Failure. Have you experienced it?

Eh don't feel too bad, I just went ahead and bought new big blues (or big blacks in this case) for all my Atari titles as well. I've just gotten into the habit of recapping everything since these games are so old.

BTW, I'm also including the filter caps in Midway games of the era. For some reason those MCR power supplies went through caps.

I've seen midway caps go bad a LOT more than atari...

I have never had one go bad because I ALWAYS replace them when I get a new Atari game. And I redo the power bricks as well.

A good tip is to write the date you install it on the top.

I had a Centipede that I wanted to put the multipede kit into which runs on a millipede board. The centipede worked great and the millipede board/kit worked great on my test bench. When the millipede board was installed in the centipede cab with the adapter, I got garbage on the screen.....but worked fien with the centipede board. Long story short, it was the big blue. Ever since then, I replace them in all my atari machines when I get them.

I always change them and put an install date on them with a sharpie marker.

me too. it the first thing i do, no matter what. dont want to put stress on other components that might fail in the future.
