Who is coming? And what game(s) are you bringing?

I am hoping we can all get together. Perhaps we can grill out in pac man Park?

Im down, gonna try and restore my frogger cocktail before then and bring it, or get me Eagle cabaret back and bring it. Its mid august right?

Aug 4-7 ...if I am not mistaken.

I am really looking forward to it this year. I think with a little help from fellow klovers its going to be a freaking blast.

I'm coming! Not sure what game or games I'll bring yet, but we have to start putting together that big classic arcade.

Anyone that does plan to go, please let Mike or I know what game you can bring with you. We're trying to pull together an entire classic arcade. Free family or individual passes to anyone that can bring a game with them to the event. It really is a great time. This could be an excellent KLOV get together like you lucky guys at CAX get to have!

i would probably go if it were closer to me, but flight wise cax is my first priority this year. i didn't really follow too much of the big bang stuff from last year, though. was it worth the trip for those that went?

It was a lot of fun to go. I took some time off since it was the first real arcade event I actually got to go to. I went on Thursday and came home Sunday. I had a great time hanging out with mikeatunion, enjoyvelvet, and some of the chasing ghosts/king of kong guys. As far as "competitive gaming" goes, it was a big event. There were a ton of really good gamers from old school like Billy and Steve to some of the modern pros. That really was the focus last year. There were tons of consoles setup so the younger audience had things scheduled the entire time. As for the old arcade stuff, there were not as many normal players or collectors like us. We brought a few games, plus the IVGHOF had a few of their own. Star Worlds Arcade from Illinois brought a ton of Pac-Man titles. They set up a nice gameroom dedicated to the Pac series.

Walter Day spent a lot of time with Mike, Joe, and I discussing how we could make the event even better and a draw for collectors like everyone on KLOV. We formed a committee with Tim McVey and some IVGHOF Board Members to plan a true classic arcade. Our goal is to have several collectors participate by bringing some of their dedicated games. We want to make this event a destination for collectors and make arcade game collecting a significant part of the history of the IVGHOF. The IVGHOF board has committed free family or individual passes to anyone who brings a game. We're going to soon start coordinating a list of people coming with games, and use it to try to get the best selection of titles we possibly can.

By the way, last year I had a ton of fun playing the games that were there, with guys that were amazing players. There's nothing like learning how to improve your gameplay by sharing tips with some world class players. Steve Sanders and Mark Kiehl both taught me a ton of strategies in Joust, which helped me to finally hit 1 million points. I got to talk Berzerk and Frenzy with Joel West, who was a lot of fun to get to know. The more games we can get to this event means even more gameplay strategy. And if you're good at any of the games, we're going to have referees around that can help get you in the scoreboard.

Anyone that plans to come this year please let us know. We'd like to know if you could bring a game or two with you and what the choices are. Even if you don't want to bring a game or don't have a way to bring one with you, please plan to come. The event is a blast and I can't wait to meet more of you guys.

I really liked it. its still a small event, but getting to talk with Billy Mitchell and Steve Ritche was really a highlight. I got some tips on how to play some of the classics from some the old school champs. I became friends with Walter Day and alot of other great guys. Met Jeff their as well. ;)

I probably mentioned this before, but it was a great way to connect with my son because they have 360 tournaments going on the entire time. It is a sausage fest, but I think thats the idea. I would recommend any Klover within driving distance contact Jeff or myself. We are organizing the classic arcade this year.

No, its not California Extreme. It's still a small event, but I think with a little support it really could be a great one. It is a little Mayberry in Ottumwa but honestly I think that is a value added.

Guess Ill be going by myself, my wife doesn't have any interest in going.

I went last year and had alot of fun...definitely glad I made it. Got to meet some people from here (mikeatunion, athometech, and a few others from other forums), plus Billy Mitchell, Steve Sanders, Steve Wiebe and Roy Shildt...pretty much got all the rest of the autographs I needed for my King of Kong DVD :D Don't think I'll make it this year though, as there's something else that weekend (non arcade related) I want to attend. If I do make it though, I'll probably bring my DK/D2K cocktail.

Ohhhhh, What do you think my chances would be of getting all the guys to sign my original LIFE Magazine?

There's a ton of autograph time. I took some marquees for autographs. It's pretty sweet having Mitchell, Wiebe, and Walter Day's autographs on my DK marquee. It's like getting famous drummers to sign drum heads!

The reshoot of the Life photo in main street was really pretty cool too. I thought it would be silly but ended up having a great time. Being in Ottumwa was the highlight for me. I remember when TG was THE place for classic scores BITD and dreamed of being able to go there to play when I was a kid. Fast Forward 25 years and now I am friends with several of them after this event. It was really surreal.

I went alone this past year. Taking my son this year. My wife rolled her eyes at me when I said I wanted to go. I am SO glad I went just to have some arcade time for myself. Any of you in the Midwest that don't get to go to CAX or Funspot this is PERFECT. It's a chance for all of us to get together and talk games for days. Wish I could do it more frequently!

Is there a website with info about this?

Searching for Big Bangers was no help (unless looking for porn).

On a related note, after seeing King of Kong and seeing the photo shoot in Ottumwa, Iowa (a place I had NEVER heard of) imagine my surprise when this happened a couple of months ago.

I purchased a Berzerk upright and had it shipped to me.

When I got it, I was tinkering around with the joystick and discovered a small wadded up piece of paper that had been crammed down into the joystick.

I got some tweezers and carefully pulled it out.

It was a receipt from 1982 where someone had bought a gallon of milk at a grocery store in Ottumwa, Iowa!

If I hadn't seen King of Kong, I probably would have thrown it away.

Instead, I saved it, wondering if any of the famous gamers ever played on my machine back in the day in Ottumwa.

Cool, I save crap like that too, the stuff that makes others shake their heads:)

I'd say that any that show up will glady sign it. None of these guys are the characters in the movie. They all seemed like good guys.

Seriously the bad guy in the Movie is really a good guy. He must have signed 300 posters, which he gave away for free, along with hundreds fo bottles of his hot sauce and he autographed my DK marquee without hesitation or dirty look.

On a side note I am going to try to get all the Klovers together down at Fun city which is 60 miles away... They have a Man VS Food event. One of you guys will have to help me win a T shirt and a place on the wall of fame. Fun city also has a very cool arcade.

Search for big bang or try going to the twin galaxies website you should be able to find more information.

I know that there will be something special going on for Donkey Kong's 30th.
