Hello all,

Does hitting the pop bumpers suppost to make a game sound? My BH does not make a sound board sound when the ball hits them... If they do, how do you turn it on, is it a dip switch setting?

Just wondering since my Space Invaders pin does make a sound when the ball hits a pop bumper.

Thx
Tom

Dunno know. I'll have to go back and start some diagnostics on it and see if I can tell what it's not doing.

Well, it was fully working for about a month I think....

sigh....

are they scoring points?

I take back what I said earlier...no, they're not scoring points. This is really strange, the pop bumpers work fine, and light up fine, just no sound or scoring when hit.

Any thoughts from anyone?

Maybe it's just a fuse....

Thx
Tom

Actually, it's not strange at all. They are two different circuits. When the bumper is up, it holds a leaf switch apart and when the ball hits the pop bumper, the bumper drops and the leaf switch connects as if you were pushing a button. So I don't thinks it's gonna be a fuse.
First, check the easy stuff. I believe all 4 pop bumper score switches are connected together. Make sure the leaf switches are open and not stuck shut.
Second, Black Hole is notorious for having bad connectors. I believe the wire colors for the pop bumpers are blue-blue-blue and slate-green-green (refering to the colored stripes on the wire). Check the connector which should be on the main board (A1) connector J6 (lower left).
Third, if the connector "seems" ok, put your meter leads on the two wires and press down on each of the pop bumpers. You should get near zero ohms. That should check the wiring.
If its not that, then you might have a board problem.

Good luck.

Thanks CB - I had a look starting with all of the pop bumpers switches and the first one I looked at appeared to not be breaking the switch when it sitting idle. I used my VOM and could see that the circuit was not open - it was was closed and the pop bumper I was looking at would not open. I studied it awhile and determined how to adjust the leaf switch and adjusted it. The circuit went open then. Tested it and I had the sound back and the pop bumpers scored. Fixed it.

Thx for the tips.
Tom

Congrats! Makes you feel good to be able to fix something. Especially when it doesn't cost you anything.
