Originally, I had this trashed out cab listed for sale on the forums but there weren't any takers. When I found this lovely cab there was Sega Championship baseball in it. Man was the umpire's voice so annoying! Not to mention the Wells 4900 monitor was on the blink and there was literally no back door. It looked overwhelming. I actually had a small panic attack the night I brought it home. LOL!

But since there wasn't any interest I decided to use it for my Splatterhouse conversion. I worked slowly on it piece by piece hoping my Splatterhouse board would arrive by the time I was done.

Here are some of the before pics.

I first decided to paint the cab but only after I sanded the bottom edges. The wood underneath was solid but the top layer was crap. Plus the previous owner had painted a white diamond on each side.

I also made a back door and painted it.

Control Panel

Next was the control panel. Felt like I should be playing golf with this ugly green CPO. I wasn't sure what had happened to the original.

It had the original leaf switches so I'm not sure what happened. Luckily I had a fellow friend that hooked me up with a Bezerk control panel. Much better!

Thanks jcellegood!

Note: I also had to scrape off a homemade painted on bezel and replace it with a real one. That makes 2 I've seen this way.

Monitor repair

Well, believe it or not the monitor had little to no burn. I wanted to try and salvage it so I bought and installed a capkit. I also cleaned it up quite a bit in the process. At the time, I didn't have a way to test the monitor. I had already rewired the entire cabinet for Jamma.

Later down the road when my Splatterhouse board arrived I had issues with no red color. I repaired the Red Drive and installed new transistors for color on the neckboard. Still no red. Come to find out it was the game pcb not the monitor or the jamma harness. Identifying this issue took me a few days. Not too mention tracing the board to find the transistors that were giving me the problem. You can really see a difference!

Red t-molding suggestion

I saw on a prior Splatterhouse conversion thread that someone mentioned adding red t-molding. I thought since Splatterhouse was a kit and really didn't have much cab art to improve the overall appeal....why not?

I kind of like the new look.

Finally Complete

After I got the game pcb fixed and running I had only one piece left missing. The marquee!! I decided to ask around since these aren't easy to come by. I found that This Old Game makes Splatterhouse marquees. Since my b-day was coming up I decided to pick one up.

I couldn't be more happy with the results. I am so glad I decided to keep this one. I guess you really never know what you've got until you see the end product.

Thanks! Actually, finding the marquee was the easiest part of the entire project.
It definitely makes a difference.

I just love the Stern cabinet look! It was just so trashed out before that I had trouble picturing it.

Touch-up

I added a final touch-up to the t-molding surrounding the marquee. Nothing major but replaced the red molding with black. I like the look. Makes the marquee pop a little more.

Looks great man! I'm currently working on my splatterhouse and will be showing it at CAX this year. :) These are definitely rare games and it is awesome to see them pop up :)
