I've owned both and still have my Pole Position, which tells you which one I prefer. I still like both games, but Pole Position is just simple and timeless, while Outrun almost seems a little gimmicky and a bit too modern looking for this old boy. I loved the shaker motor, but the game itself seemed too soulless to me. I would race once, miss the second checkpoint and just walk away. With Pole Position, I can race 5-10 races in a row before I have to walk away. What do you guys think? Which is your favorite and why? Maybe you like them equally and can't decide? That's OK too.

Outrun, but I love them both.

Edit: But I agree about you saying that you want to walk away sooner. I could play PP for hours, but I get sick of Outrun after a few credits. Then again I get a lot farther than you do in Outrun.

Edit #2: Also playing Outrun on a upright vs a PP cockpit isn't fair at all. I loved playing Outrun in the sitdown motorized cabinet. I got to play it again this summer at Funspot, it was great! Not as fun as Afterburner II cockpit though.

I LOVE my newly put together Pole Position 2, I honestly thought i would send the board out for repair and flip the game since i didnt pay for it and honestly its a keeper.. I have a LOT of fun with it.

I have owned top speed which is generally outrun, and that was awesome but it was all how the game was set, there were dips that wouldnt allow you to complete the game, and while it was fun the problem I had was it was 1 of 3 games when I had it and got boring, Its nicer in a bigger collection!

I sold Outrun and kept my Pole Position II.
Funny thing - the Outrun was fully working and my PPII is still not working.

The shaker motor was a bit much for me, so I disabled it.

Some day I'll get my boards repaired.

Had an Outrun, was neat with shaker, but didnt stay around long, whereas my Outrun 2 SP is still here and I probably play that more than anything else, still trying to beat the 15 stage Course, and now I have a PP1 I enjoy that a lot, the simplistic play, but still bloody challenging, both are keepers IMO and my daughter loves the PP Cockpit, so another good reason to keep it :)

I ranked Pole Position at 16 out of the top fifty. Outrun was somewhere in the thirties. That sums up my subjective and objective opinions.

Outrun is just the standard archetype for a checkpoint racer but I really like it. I always seemed to crash pole position more(ok ok I only remember them from the 90s)

Outrun for me is THE racing game (because of my age) though I LOVE Pole Position. It doesnt get a whole lot better than the music that plays when you drop a quarter in a Pole Position and hear "prepare to qualify!". The only thing better is probably Magical Sound Shower, ha.

Love em both, wish I had both. Only have Outrun right now.

Like my Outrun but would trade it for a stable working Pole Position.

PP cockpit > Outrun upright
Outrun upright > PP upright

I've sold two Pole Positions... and one Outrun. I still have the 2nd Outrun.

I've not owned a PP cockpit but I was surprised a couple years back at how much more fun it makes Pole Position...

Pole Position all the way. Never craved an Outrun. PP has super classic sounds and graphics, easy to play, yet hard to master. Keeps you coming back for more. The cabinet looks better as well.

Ciggy burned black plastic>cracked silvery plastic.

I vote outrun... the steering on PP is too loose. It also probably helps that Outrun was the game I played the most with a beer in one hand :D
cheers
