What is the best williams cab to throw a mulit williams in as far as contorl setup and such? i ask cause i was thinging stargate would need some modification to throw such a board in.

Although i doubt it's the popular choice I'm gonna say defender. I think defender has a couple things over the other williams cabs when it comes to a multi set up. first off the cp is basically a flat piece of wood so it's very easy to work with as far as adding holes or whatever. Also a very easy panel to make from scratch so as not to ruin an original defender panel. Second the cab design is open so for a two player game the players have more space than many williams cabs allow. I would probably say stargate has to be the worst for this. Couldn't imagine two people playing a game at the same time with the stargate cab design. I guess I could also add to my first point in saying that most multi williams cps are very cluttered due to the unique control layout of defender and stargate. Personally I don't like the buttons everywhere look that pretty much all multi williams have. My answer to this is going to be to make two cps with quick disconnect molex connectors that can easily swap out. One cp will be for stargate and defender and the other will be for all other games.

I just finished 6 Williams cab multi conversions and Joust is the best. The CP is open on the sides, giving the players extra room and it's the wider design. Robotron is my favorite cabinet but the sides make it tighter for 2 players. Stargate should never be desicrated, as it's the greatest game ever made! I think the Sinistar, Bubbles cab is too small but it can work.
And if you are as serious about playing Stargate properly as I am, a multi williams cp will not cut it, too many little differences if you really want to play Stargate perfectly.

I don't like my multi-williams control panel at all when playing defender or stargate. The reverse button and the wico just plain suck.

I have dedi panels that I swap out on my stargate cab for stargate and robotron so far. I want to get a dedi joust for the cab and im done.

I can also confirm that stargate is the best game ever made and I am really good at it!

I run the JRok Multi in a Stargate cab, and there are no problems playing head to head Joust.

The biggest thing really is that the cab will need a JAMMA harness installed - mine was converted already.

Arcadeshop has the parts to make a Multi Williams look good. There are other avenues to attain that as well.

I vote for Joust/Robotron.. of course I'm restoring a joust for my MW.

Silkscreened Artwork to fit joust/robotron and now defender MW cabs is avaliable on my
website.

i would also throw a vote toward joust/robotron, as all the stuff that's been made artwork wise is there for joust/robotron style cabs, they already have horizontal monitors, and yeah. you can pretty much get everything you need and do it easy.

if you want a challenge, try doing it in a narrower sinistar cab.

IMHO the best Williams cab to Multi-Williams is any of the classic Williams cabs that are included in the multi-game you choose AS LONG AS THAT CAB IS ALREADY DEAD...

...again, IMHO, it's not cool to destroy a working Williams cab to multi it. I, personally, went with a Stargate cabinet that had been converted to multiple other games before I got it as an "Ataxx"...

Good candidates:

Joust
Robotron
Defender
Stargate
Bubbles
etc...

Yep. Any Williams cab that has already been converted is a great candidate for a MW...

I totally agree on doing the multi on previously converted/painted over cabinets. I could see it if you have a working Joust or Robotron and want to do a Clay's kit on original hardware. In that case, I would probably leave as much original artwork intact as possible. Possibly going with a multi marquee and CPO but otherwise original. Anybody use a Moon Patrol cabinet for a multi? I have only seen one multi Williams up close. It was a black Robotron. It used original boards with Clay's kit. Joust and Robotron played exactly like the originals. I don't really remember the gameplay of the other games but its really hard to exactly duplicate the gameplay of original hardware. At the time, Multi-Williams artwork was not as available as it is now but it was still a well done machine.

What is your high score? I only play 1 credit, 3 ship games on factory settings, anything else is sacrilidge!
My HS is 188,000 but I have an acid damaged board and never took a photo of the score but that score was over 40,000 better than any other I have ever played.
There is no better game ever made than Stargate and I mean anything, even the current, super high rez, FPS, photo realistic stuff out there now; Stargate blows them all away.

I liked stargate and defender the most because I could play a very long time on both machines. I have flipped over both machines at different times when I was younger (100 + waves) no warp rule in effect for stargate. Now that I am older I have 20 to 25 waves per quarter. Which is still one heck of a game. I am getting better all the time but chasing my child hood play on these machines is a lot of work.

I would throw down against anybody on either of these machine and I am almost 50. You never know I might have a good day.

There is one thing I miss and that's all my friends that I use to play against. I have yet to play anyone any good on my own machine.

I went and checked my stargate score. Im at 187,125 on the jrok. I didn't check the the defender score because everyone knows why play defender if stargate is in the house!

I had a little better on my dedi stargate but between the sound & widget board it kept going out on me. So I pulled them out and hung them on the wall.

I haven't tried my arcadeshop board in horizontal mode yet.

I have no idea what my Stargate high score is. I haven't owned my old one in about 9 years. I should have kept it. Very fun game, lots of action. Really wish I would have kept it.

I did a Stargate cab.

It was converted to a Run-n-Gun 2 and blacked out. Home Depot cut the cabinet grade plywood to size, I painted it black, cut the appropriate holes, then stuck down the new multi-Williams overlay.

The cab has a 25" monitor shoehorned in it which is GREAT for playing Robotron. :)

Here's mine; it's a Stargate

I enjoy it highly. Though I suck at Stargate and Defender, I do enjoy playing them.

No you didn't........it was a Defender cab. And that 25" monitor is awesome in there!

personally i hate all multiwilliams panels and most if not all MW artwork... the panels are always too cluttered, swappable panels is the way to go for any true playability

the sides on most of the cabinets leave joust, defender, and bubbles... i happen to be planning a bubbles right now, and i hope its cool, but the cabinet was empty and i had an extra sinistar (same) control panel, otherwise:

i'd recommend defender personally... with the open sides and easy to duplicate control panel... you could have one panel for each game at play it the way it was meant to be (proper controls, proper spacing are critical to any design in my opinion)... robotron/joust sized artwork is one incentive but not near as important as controls... and i'd recommend original artwork with a "multi-topper" anyway

- you need the tall sticks for robotron, spaced right (sorry stargate fans, this is the best game of all time)
- you need the 2-way/horz shorties for joust
- you need the 2-way/vert shorties for defender/stargate, with a super close reverse button
- you need no joysticks in your way for the right hand on defe/starg
- you'll prefer no buttons in your way on robotron/bubbles
- you need a 49-way for sinistar
- you'll prefer an optical/rubber stick for bubbles
i've never really played splat, so i dunno, but i'd say a one player robotron setup would be the same requirements... i doubt anyone goes for 4 sticks for splat

my two quarters err cents
