I need to redo the playfield inserts on a Jokerz! pin I'm cleaning up for my brother. I'll have to make the inserts myself since nobody reproduces them for that machine.

Has anybody done this before? I was hoping to find some templates online with common insert shapes so I can just pick a similar font, type in the labels, print, and apply. Would be a pita to have to trial-and-error with making shapes and wasting adhesive backed mylar to get the sizes right... and would hate to end up just painting them on...

Speaking of which, can anybody recommend a specific thickness for the printable mylar, or better yet a source to buy a pack?

Think I got something via google that will work. Inkjet clear adhesive vinyl. Gonna give that a shot and see if it will work. Will update once I figure it out one way or the other.

And if it doesn't I can still put a sweet logo on my hardhat with it or something LOL. :D

I am interested to hear about this.
Do you print on it inverted and then put the adhesive over the printing so the printing is under the mylar? Otherwise print on top then put another mylar over it?

The specific product which I ordered showed a clearcoat type spray on the site to make the vinyl waterproof, but in my case I'll be printing on the non-sticky side and putting a new mylar over the result. So basically the result of this experiment may only be useful if you plan to install a new mylar or clearcoat afterwards.

Just hope it doesn't look like ass because the vinyl is glossy instead of matte. But with a mylar on top of it I doubt the gloss will show through.

I'd consider clear coat over mylar. Just makes for a better job in the long run.

I'm considering using bits of mylar (not a full factory one mind you) to conceal touchups to prevent hazing when I clearcoat my FunHouse pf, but the Jokerz! I'm redoing is just going to my brother as a gift so not sure I wanna bother with it on that one.

Curious though, why recommend clearcoat and a new factory mylar? If there were no touchups wouldn't the clearcoat alone be better than also using the full factory mylar in addition to that?

EDIT: I figure that the clearcoat would negate the play effects of the mylar to an extent since it fills a little (which is good if you need to use mylar over touch ups), but am just assuming that over time the mylar would yellow under the clear.

I was thinking clearcoat only. If you are just doing mylar over the inserts I think you will be fine. I have seen it done before and it looked great, but only time will tell if the mylar insert labels will yellow. I'm suprised there are not more replacement inserts available out there.
