This is what I was thinkin of doing:

Roll the sides and front using semi gloss oil based? 3-4 coats
Then tape it off in a couple days when it's dry with painters green tape/newspaper and spray the black for the front sides. Is that how you guys are painting these cabs?

For the melamine Nintendo cabinet, I think semi-gloss would be too shiny. I would go for satin. I sprayed my DK Jr. cabinet with semi-gloss latex, which came out more satin, after thinning and adding a flow agent.

I used a cheap HVLP gun, with the mix about 80% paint, 15% water, 5% Floetrol. It came out flat as glass and the sheen seems dead on. It was about 50% luck.

This is right after spraying the cabinet:

Looks good man. Can't wait to paint mine. I Prepped it all tonight!

So you went with spray instead of roll. Hmmmm... Did you use green tape to tape off one side when you did the white? Does the tape peel off good leaving a nice edge?

I primed the entire outside with Krylon white rattle can primer. I then sanded it smooth with 220 or 320, can't remember. I taped off the areas that would get painted black, so in that pic you see, I've repainted some of the black, but did the rest in a 2nd pass and feathered it in - can't remember why I did it that way.

I did 3 coats of primer and rolled it out twice and it came out nice. The pic makes it look dark.. :/
