I just picked up a taito cabinet that has a gray laminate on the sides. One side is really nice with just a couple of chips on the edges. The other side has a cracked piece that was already glued and a loose cracked piece and more chops along the edges

What's the best way to fix? I was thinking to fill the chips (bondo?). And then get full side art decals from this old game.

Th cabinet is solid otherwise (except for the base-which is easy to rebuild).

Thoughts?

Heya,

I'd give this a shot and it's pretty inexpensive, too. If you applied the laminate and know what it is you can select the appropriate manufacturer (Formica, Nevamar, Wilsonart etc.) and then select the colour.

I've seen videos on how to use it but haven't ever tried it. Might be just the ticket.

How to fix? It depends on what kind of person you are.

Some people a little bondo and a coat primer and a coat of counter top paint but trust me. you will see the patch even tho others may not.

This is how I would go about it. Start from scratch and rip both sides off spend way too much time removing glue and making the surface as perfectly flat as i can.

Put a two new sheet on and grumble about the small imperfections that nobody cares about.

Shove two other arcade machines on the sides and call it good..

I guess I should have stated that this will be refinished and sold. I usually get a good price on my games when I fix them up, so this can't be a hack patch job and be done with it.

I have a few chips in my cab. Bondo is an interesting choice.

Wouldn't Durham's water putty work? I had used it previously to fill some holes in my control panel.

I'm not sure it's white. Some kind of gray. I haven't touched the cabinet yet but because there are so many spots to fix, I was thinking to patch and then apply a full side decal. But- it would actually be a little cheaper to just apply new laminate. Or is that not a good idea. I am feeling all sorts of confident with either because I watched blkdog's videos on both laminate and side art. Lol
