Best way to Desolder?

I just ordered the Blackjack 4000.. hopefully it should be here soon.
I think it was a decent deal for the price and there appears to be positive
support for it here and elsewhere.

Gonna sell my pace desoldering unit which requires shop air if anyone is
interested. Works good. I just need something that doesnt require an air compressor... moved my work area to my basement. $50 shipped.

So hows that BlackJack working for ya?

Still looking to buy a Desoldering Iron, but will have to wait til after the holidays. Anyone know of a good Soldering Station?

i would recommend a pace. they are in my opinion hands down the best solder/desolder station you can buy.

it seems a bit pricy yes but the 3 accessories alone new are more than 500.00.

plus pace still supports all the parts. tips and new accessories for it.

i have a pace MBT 250 sensatemp with a SX90 desoldering pen and iron.
i would not trade or buy any thing else ever. and i bought it used.

i have had it for over two years and only gone thru desoldering 2 tips. and i do alot of monitor chassis repair.

well worth the money if you want a good tool to have for years to come.

and if you use 60/40 leaded rosin core solder you don't have to worry about flux.

Peace

I've used buffett's desoldering station, it's pretty bad ass.

I'm poor though so I have a Radio shack special with the attached bulb. Lol

A friend of mine told me a friend of his used a radio shack model, removed the bulb, added a glass "jar" and then a fish pump to the back side... and created his own little home-made auto-desolderer.

I would add a little inline filter, but that's a great idea. I realize the jar serves that purpose, but it doesn't hurt to have an extra line of defense.

I've got a desoldering tip for my old Weller, but I misplaced my pump the last time I moved. Might give the cheap pump a go.

That Pace is pretty cool. But damn is $500 what they actually go for or more?

that is cheap compared to a new one.
with all the attachments that one has. a new one would be around 3000.00 with all those attachments.

get it and have the best tool on the market for solder/desoldering.

plus pace has excellent customer support. at least my rep does. they are required to go to a pace school to learn about the equipment they sell.

i have used other stations they are ok but use this and you will never go back.

it will also do surface mount components with the other attachments they make for it.

I used your Pace station at one of DogP's repair days and I think it is totally awesome. When my Aoyue dies I will be buying one. My Aoyue does the job but that Pace station made it so much easier.

Lol.....Well, I think for now til I actually get really good at Soldering I'll go with a cheaper one. This way if for some reason I ruin it, I'm only out a few bucks instead of a couple hundred. Nice set up though for sure.

Pace

I've got a Pace soldering rig.. It's not the expensive one, much cheaper model.. Got it from a klov member in a trade.. It's hands down the best piece of equipment I've got for electronics tools.. I use the cheapo radio shack desolder bulb thing.. Works great, just wish it had other tips.. As its decent for most applications but too large or too small for others.. But hell, I got it for free in a raid :)

Plus Pace is made in the USA! :)

getting good with a pace is the only way to go.

it is so easy you wont even know you are doing it.

trust me spend the money. even if you tire of the repair thing they hold their value very well. and can be sold or traded with ease.

i know i bought two desoldering/soldering stations, so i have a backup if it ever breaks. and i dont have money for parts rite away.
or i have a monitor repair day, witch some day i would like to do.

just my .02

I just picked up the Blackjack BK4000.

What is the tool circled in the picture for?
Also, what am I supposed to do with the silcon grease?

The circled tool is to clear the desoldering gun of solder that might stay in the tip and solidify inside. I always use that tool to clean the tip before I turn off the unit.

The grease is to lubricate the O-Rings on the gun itself.
