What is recommended for cleaning monitor chassis? I have a really dusty one that needs cleaning before my cap kit...

Canned Air?

Thanks! Ive read that before as well as using Simple Green... Ill give it a try just curious to hear what others are doing.

If i'm in a hurry, i clean it off in the sink, blow it off with the compressor and throw it on the tube otherwise, i let it dry in the sun or in front of a fan for a couple hours. As long as you get all the big puddles of water out from the main board and out of the neckboard, the heat that the chassis generates will burn off the excess moisture.

The direct from sink to tube method isn't something i really recommend but after you do it a few hundred times, the fear is gone.

yeah I've used a simple green, windex, or any degreaser I can find lying around.

I always let it dry in my truck for a few days though. With the sun beating through the window it dries it pretty good.

Slackmo is right. Wash it down with water, dishwash liquid, and a toothbrush. Let it dry overnight on edge and blow the remaining water out from under the components.

You could also get your oven warm, open the door a bit, and set the chassis in there. not hot, just hot enough to dry it.

Formula 409 or Lysol Kitchen cleaner followed by garden hose. Then sit in a Texas summertime garage for a few hours (days). Followed by recapping and a thorough inspection of traces and solder joints.

Thanks got it... I had read other posts I just wanted to verify the best method. Thank you for all the reply's!

CRC for electronics. Cleans it great. I wash the heavy stuff off and then CRC it. CRC will remove all water and dry the board at the same time. NO waiting.

Hose, cleaner, and oven

Last summer I picked up about 15 Go7 chassis from an old Op.. Layed them all out in my driveway. Sprayed them down with cleaner (whatever brand), hosed them off, then grabbed a few and put them in the oven at the lowest setting with the door open a bit.. Took about 25mins to dry I think..

Only bad thing.. Kinda stunk up my house.. Cleaner, dust, old electronics stink.. My wife was a bit annoyed.

They looked brand new after I was done
