I am repainting the metal control panel on my MVS and replacing all the buttons and sticks. In the process I removed the lexan overlay. I need to clean it, and before I dunk it in soapy water I want to know if anyone else has done the same.

Because the ovelay is painted from the back I am concerned I might wear off the paint. The overlay is in excellent shape and I don't want to do anything that might damage it.

Any sugestions?

I did a quick search and found there's stuf called Plexus that won't scratch. Some other threads;

All i know is that you could try the mildest soaps there are: Dove and J&J baby shampoo.

Thanks so much, do you know anything about the paint? I don't want to wash it off. I would say it is like cleaning the back of a painted marquee. Anyone ever done that?

I took a look at those links and found out NOT to use windex or ammnoia on it as it will cloud lexan. I am so glad I read that!

Be carefull!

So I used mild soap and water and a cloth gently. The paint on the back started to flake off :eek:, mostly in the areas of black. It will look fine back on the CP since it is black underneth.

I my advice for anyone wanting to do this in the furture to not do it unless it is really bad. And if you do be VERY careful!

yea ther eis really no need to clean the underneath side
on mine i just wiped it down once i reinstalled it to clean up the part that shows
then put some nice new plexi over the top to protect it from future abuse (wish they all had plexi from the factory)

mine was not to bad excpt for the cigarette burn and a spot by one of the bolts

they were under it but once i installed the new plexi i placed them over i like them better on top so they can actyally do their job and keep crap for getting under the plexi/overlay and getting in the sticks

All done!

I stripped all the paint off and sandblasted the rust from the panel and repainted. it looks so much better.
