I am building a new control panel out of 3/4" plywood should it be painted before I apply the vinyl overlay(multi-williams) or just stick it straight to the wood. THanks in advance for any advice you guys can give me.

I personally would just stick it directly to the wood. It's going to be covered anyway.

You HAVE to seal the wood with paint or poly (and let it cure) before installation or the overlay simply won't stay stuck down. Adhesive backed vinyls don't stick well to porous surfaces.

Yeah, what Phet said...and make sure that's some quality cabinet grade plywood. If not, you'll see all of the imperfections through it.

Thanks for the replys I will make it so I can find no imperfections in it before I paint it black as the main color on the CPO is black.
