Best vertical-monitor JAMMA games? (other than shoot-em-ups)

What are some of the best vertical monitor JAMMA games out there, aside from the Raidens and Strikers and other shmups?

I know the original DriftOut was a vertical monitor game - was that worthwhile?

And the Contras were vert monitor games as well, no?

What about anything else that used a vertical monitor that wasn't a shmup?

Vertical non-shooter Jamma I recommend:

MAD GEAR

There are also games like the Arkanoid series and bowling games (capcom, strata),
but I assume you only want joystick games.

Thank you, Yaggy! You rule. You even preemptively answered my question as to whether those are all joystick games!

Of those, I'm guessing the first two are single-player, and the latter two are 2-player; is that right?

Any ideas of approximate values on the PCBs of those?

1. Yes!
2. They're all $30 boards, except maybe paddle mania.
I think those get quite a bit more for some reason.
Had one years ago, fun 2-player action.

I see a rally bike on ebay right now... asking 69.99 OBO
I'd offer like $35. It's a challenging game, same hardware
as the shooter "Twin Cobra."

Gotcha, thanks! Wrestle War seems to be available for not too much as well (like $40 shipped) but I'm not seeing Paddle Mania or Mad Gear anywhere.

It's a shame that vertical monitors were pretty much only used for shmups after about 1990, apparently.

Any interest in non jamma vert titles that can be played via jamma adapter? I could list a few.. For pure jamma vert non shmups I'm drawing blank.

Tom

Hey Tom, i'd be curious to see what you'd mention.I know a lot of classics have adaptors made; I'd kinda like to find some more modern stuff tho, personally

Hmm..let's see..
with Nintendo adapter: dk, dkjr, dk3
with konami classics: time pilot, time pilot84, gyruss, junofirst, scramble, frogger
with universal adapter: mrDo!, mrDo's castle
With capcom adapter: commando
jamma: outzone.

Sorry man I'm not much help for jamma nonshmup verts.. In the late 80's/90's it seemed most games seemed like they were either beatemups or fighting games or vert shmups.

Tom

hMMM... Outzone kinda fits in with what I'm looking for, and looks like a cool game. Good graphics for the time, it seems. Very bright/colorful.

yep I've hit up Anthony at Quarterarcade for adapters many times. Does a great job, he just made a Bank Panic pcb adapter for me recently. For some of the tougher adapters to find like Tapper, Joust, Robotron, Defender and Stargate, I've turned to HudsonArcade and they work great.
