Best version of Street Fighter II, and price check?

I think it jumps from WW -> CE -> HF -> SSF2 -> SSF2T

WW - $40-50
CE - $50-75
HF - $50-75
SSF2 - (A+B) $80-100
SSF2T - $150-250 (maybe in the higher range) they come up for sale so rarely that the price is very high. This is for an original non-phoenix with a new battery)

You're correct about the series progression for the American arcade releases.

Re: CE vs HF. For the competitive scene, HF > CE all day long. HF has a vastly more balanced cast than CE, where Bison and Guile rape the entire cast. Since some of us are tossing gaming resumes around to back up opinions, I'm an old tournament player and a mod at SRK (DreamTR is the other seasoned tournament player I seem to bump into at every other game related forum I lurk).

From a purely screwing around enjoyment standpoint or non-hardcore, I think both are nice (fun fact: there is a hardcore South Korean scene that still plays CE to death...they ran one of the earliest regular online video game streams of nothing but high level CE play). I prefer HF all day though if I have a choice. ;)

I think your value of SSF2 and WW is a little high though. Those games are the dogs of the series. WW is only loved because it was first...and it's glitchy. Super because of the home ports and maybe a little bit to do with it being the first major CPS2 release, if people really care about that.

I realize it wasn't brought up, but Rainbow/Blackbelt is all over the map. Some people love the crap out of those, some hate them. I got a pile of CPS-1 SF2's and every one of them was Rainbow, so I'm not under the impression they are rare.

Super Turbo is king...but damn...I really don't want to see the thing hitting 200+. Partially cause I gotta get around to re-purchasing it (lost my green board)...partially because 200+ just to constantly get worked by the Blue version's AI...that's gonna be fat buyers remorse. :p

Why yes you did. In SF circles its a MUST have

I plan to get in to the "circles" of SF collectors a little bit. Or at least to start collecting them. I am a fan of the series. But, like I said before, lack of opportunity has left my experience with the series somewhat less than varied.

I have spare HF boards. I think I have 3 of them and another set of Rainbow ROMs. Make me an offer or let me know what you have for trade.

Yeah WW and SSF2 may be high because of it's price but still fools will buy those versions so I think the price sustains. WW is nearly the value of CE because some guys are stuborn and they want to play the old old school even when you and I think it's a dog to play. Man GUILE... Yes CE is totally unbalanced so much also but many can't tell the difference between that and HF. I can't play anything slower than HF, which is why SSF2 is so BAD...

I got lucky back in the day. I got my Namco Excellena Candy cab with Alpha 3, SuperSF2, ST and Tower of Doom all for $700. I was able to sell my SSF2 for $80 a while back. If I'm high, maybe only by $10.

ST is argueable how much it's worth. It really is so rare to see on Ebay and I have not seen any on sale here in the last 2 years. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. For CPS2 boards, it's up there with AVP and SOM in price. I still see SOM in the 200-300 price range but not any ST at all on ebay... no knowing what it's worth.

Mindless, your deal is almost as good as my 3rd Strike with working US board in a working 3KOAM (but raw) for $150.
Sosage, I always respect your opinion.

If you want to collect, get what you want but I suggest HF, ST, SA3, MvC (CPS2), Vampire Savior and 3rd Strike (get ready for sticker shock)

I really want to get the Darkstalkers games as well. I've only played one, but I did enjoy it on the surface. I would like to get in to it a little deeper.

And, as the saying goes, pics or it didn't happen, so here are the pics.

I'm going to completely redo this thing, maybe not to perfection, but add the wood that is missing and replace the CP.

I'm almost sure that CP was originally on a rampage or something, it's a 3 player. The box they built on, what were they thinking? At least the original wood isn't damaged other than a few holes from the screws.

Good news is, it functions, and is solid (despite looking like a 2x4 fell through it)

It's almost so much work replicating and replacing those missing panels that you should just part this HS1 cab out.

I've seen HS1's with games for $150 in my area. They are pretty common enough that you should be able to start over with something in better shape and walk with a rare board, 19" K7000 monitor and some other various used parts.

It looks like it was dropped into something or not a 2x4 but a cinder block that busted open it's head.

Colors also look off on your monitor.

ST - $220 sold with bad fan and unknown battery.

Only reason I say 2x4 is the chunk missing out of the top is almost exactly that size of a 2x4. All they said is it was dropped on something.

Yeah, the colors are off a bit. I haven't had time to adjust much of anything on it yet. It has been sitting in my parent's garage, because we got in pretty late at night with it, and it was easier to just move it there for now.

I figure buying a $15-20 piece of MDF is cheaper than a full cabinet, for now. I will be keeping my eye out for an empty one. I do have the piece for the bottom of the marquee for the speakers, and my father in law has a wood workshop, so he could cut the pieces I need in 10 minutes.

Yeah i just need SSF2 Turbo to complete my Street Fighter collection that i enjoy playing...

I finally got my
SFEX2 last month...

I've gotten several offers from people selling their ST board around $150-$180...Still a little to high for me, but yeah mindl3ss you got a really good deal. You should try finding a nicer cab though if you plan to keep it. It deserves to be in a nice one.

Also, like i said through pm if you want to get into street fighter stuff come down to Olympic Cards & comics every thursday 5pm till midnight.

I want to find a nice Z-back for it. I would love a candy cab, but I have never seen one of those in my price range. Or even for sale in a radius where it's worth it to travel. Closest I've seen was a Neo Candy in Idaho, right across the border. But the guy was asking way more than I would pay.

I will make the cabinet at least look presentable, so don't worry too much. Plus, I think the game looks decent on the 19" monitor.

I think it would have been fair at $150.

You've got some nice cabs. I have a nice Namco Excellena but I decided to sell it since I have all wood uprights in my garage. Eventually I want to get an HD cab also so that I can plug my Xbox and PC into it for Hyperspin MAME and X360. I would probably hack X360 control pads for that project... one day.

Mindless... yeah if restoring this cab is easy, throw HF into it. Get a 25" for rotating the games with giant sprites and stuff. 3rd Strike would need a 25"
cab.

I think the right price for SSF2 Turbo is around $125-135...I hate how a lot of people hoard the CPS2 though, making harder for people to get at a decent price.

SF2 Hyper Fighting is still the best arcade SF2 game...SF2 HDR for xbox 360 is the best SF game for me.

Im about to get a showcase cab & plan to put 2D fighting game jamma on there, maybe buy another 360 & dedicate it to Marvel vs Capcom 3 or Mk9...Not sure depending on the fighting game community here thinks...

Hyper Fighting is the best. It was the game that was played the MOST in the arcades and sold a lot more units (as opposed to Super Turbo), just as the Street Fighter 2 craze was at it's peak. The extra characters that were added in Super are super-lame in my book. t-hawk is super-cheap and fei-long doesn't even feel like you are playing a Street Fighter character. I have played Super Turbo a good bit on my pedestal setup on the PS3, but i STILL think that Hyper Fighting "feels" the best and offers the most exciting head to head contests. I also think that Street Fighter 4 goes back to the play feel of Hyper Fighting as well to a certain extent. Just my .02, and I have played a LOT of Street Fighter in my day...

Huh? How are the new characters super cheap? I don't think you played the game against people enough if you think that is the case.

Street Fighter 4 feeling like Hyper Fighting? It's not even remotely close.

I don't deny Hyper Fighting being a great game but in terms of "sold" units for arcade Street Fighter II and SFIICE sold a ton more. Hyper Fighting was the answer to all the boots that were out there at the time.

Competitively Super Turbo is the only one of the "older" SF games being played, but if you don't like Super Moves and prefer the older school feel, HF is the next best thing.

I've been playing all of the SF games in tournaments since 1991 across the country and still run them in my arcade on Super Street Fighter IV and the arcade upgrade to this day and ST is clearly the only competitive game nowadays....unless you like Short/Fierce quick dizzies and Blanka traps and the liking, I would say for "balance" ST is much more that than HF.

I cant stand SFIV & i really think they watered down the talent of the fighting game community...Evo no longer has any SF2 in their lineup, its a joke...All they care about is the money, they pretty much just spit on our faces & slam the door on the most loyal peeps who build the fighting community & been keeping it alive...

What the fuck ever with that crock of cliche angsty bullshit. They ran some form of ST every single year until now (including the B series). Through shitty console ports and HDR splitting the international community in half to the game bringing in incredibly low numbers they backed that game. If this is the year they stop supporting it, I can point you to a pretty obvious reason: HDR.

As for other II series games being supported, there aren't enough people interested in Hyper Fighting to warrant even a local tournament, let alone a national one. Even when it was the hot shit on XBL.

As for Evo spitting in "our faces" and being "for the money". Evo didn't come close to breaking even until IV blew up. In the past they had to sell DVDs and T-shirts just to hit that breaking even line. Every other year they lost cash. This isn't some big ass corporate organization you're talking about. This is a group of old school grass roots players that got together and paid out of pocket for years so we could have a quality yearly event.

Edit: I love ST...but the community just isn't giving as much of a shit about it anymore. Not nearly as much as IV. You gotta play where the competition is sometimes.

Ya, I mean we try as hard as we can with ST (having it at MWC and SBO quals last year) but no one can deny 1,900+ entrants at EVO for SSF4.

I'm as old school as it gets and SSF4 is much more balanced than the old school games. Yes they changed a few things to make the game "easier" for newcomers but to discount the game and be stubbornly firm on old games only is naive.

HDR, oh man, what a joke. I remember each year EVO has had to change for ST...

Dreamcast, PlayStation, Arcade, PS2 with lag, back to Dreamcast, Anniversary Edition PS2, HDR on PS3 oh gawd.

Seeing as how HDR had 300+ participant each year, that's pretty damn amazing...Instead Evo decides to put two games that hasn't even been released yet...Who knows how broken they are. Just goes to show they are just there to showcase new games for game company...They dont really care about the games being featured anymore, as long as money rolls in...This will be a trend, trust me.

Also having no SF2 at all seems weird...

MVC is going to be giant.

MK has never been at EVO in any aspect.

LOL! You've heard me say it before man, ST is cursed. Even going super gun has unique issues. ST community has always had to deal with "not great, but good enough".

rcaido: whatever. You can twist it to look like you and your group of players are being victimized by this giant organization all you want. The reality is less romantic and doesn't make anyone look like the underdog.

As for the games in the line up being unreleased. Get real. There isn't a game in that line up that will not be at least 3 months old by the time Evo hits. Do you really think competitors give a flying crap about the old version when the newest version is in its first 6 months of life? Seriously?!?
