Busted out my Vectrex for the first time in years now that I have a basement game room. The only cart I have is cosmic chasm. I know there are multicarts but I might just by 2-3 originals. What games are good on the Vectrex ?

Your best strategy is to just watch some "best vectrex games" vids on Youtube and make the decision yourself.
(I like Berzerk and Armor Attack and several "homebrews" that are very similar to the arcade versions - i.e. Vector Patrol and others ....).

Though I don't own one, I think @ArcadeJason did make one of the most extensive Vectrex multicarts that would allow you to try all the games and then find either original carts (IN BOXES) or homebrews and their overlays.

What's the update on the PiTrex? I have one but have never used it. LOL :)
How well does it play OG Atari Vectors etc?

EDIT: one of the newer vids describing the PiTrex

It's good but not great for the Atari vectors, better on earlier games than the really intensive ones like Star Wars. The software load I've been using hasn't been updated in a couple of years. Really shines on "fast Vectrex," aka running Vectrex games using the Pi as a processor instead of the original hardware, and some other arcade games, most notably Tail Gunner, which is perfect (and the controller is even correct).

Here's the KLOV user thread:

PiTrex is the most fun I have had with mine, after that, one of the USB programable carts. I don't even know what OG carts I have in my pile. Homebrew stuff is really good. Gravitrex is awesome.

I will add PiTrex is worth it just for Tail Gunner, it's that good. I use an OG Vectrex controller and extended the length of the stick, feels pretty true to the OG arcade game, which I have pretty easy access to.

For most other games I like a different style of controller. I have a modified Sega Genesis arcade stick that's good.

Of the original games, there's a few decent titles -Armor Attack, Star Castle, Fortress of Narzod, etc. Like most classic systems these days, there are now more homebrew games for them, and Vectrex is no exception. Some great versions of classics like Asteroids, Battlezone, Omega Race, Time Pilot, etc. Moon Lander is a personal fav of mine but don't bother with the version on Sean Kelly's carts as those have an early/prototype version; the full version has more moons and voice. As alfonzotan mentioned, stick with either ArcadeJason's carts or go with a PiTrex for the best upgrade. There's a few Facebook Vectrex groups (Vectrex Fan Club and Vectrex fans unite!) worth checking out for the latest homebrews and custom upgrades (like trackball controllers).

The homebrew Vector Pilot is great. I havent played Vector Patrol but I suspect it is great as well.

I always wanted the Pole Position cart and I don't think I ever owned it. I sold all my stuff off about 5 years ago for probably way too cheap. I had a shit ton of cartridges, overlays and manuals. I also had the Sean Kelly multi cart and one of Toby's custom controllers. I can honestly say the Vectrex is one system that I thought would be cool to own, but since I've sold it, I haven't missed it one bit. That being said, if I found one near me for cheap, I'd snap it up in a heartbeat.

Agreed.

I owned a super minty Vectrex a few years ago. Did the speaker buzz mod for it and owned the multi-cart 3.0

I ended up selling everything for only like $300 I think.

Really neat piece of gaming history but I don't really regret selling it. Didn't have much staying power for me.

It's a really great system with a lot of novelty charm, but the prices for systems lately are crazy.

PiTrex is a really great addition to have for emulation and multicart fun.

Vectorblade, Hera Primera, Vyrzon, Vector Patrol, USA Zombie Apocalypse, and Wet Cat are just a few of the games that I seem to go back to whenever I get mine out.

I was in sixth grade when this came out and wanted one so bad, I am the baby of three brothers and we grew up pretty poor so all of us boys hatched a plan for Christmas, we agreed to all of us just asking for a Vectrex for Christmas and it worked, we got one! I forget what all carts we had but we had a few, mostly ones on clarence form Kay*Bee toys, we played with that thing until it stopped working, loved it.

I got that setup from you, the CTD joystick really makes it fun.
