I've got a lot of console stuff, but I've never had a TG16. Well I finally decided that I should get one so I just picked up one on ebay. It's tested and working and has all the cords, two controllers, turbotap, and nine games. Can't wait to get it home and play. What are some of your favorite games for this thing?

I only really remember the Bonk games, and Bomberman. They were all good.

The port of R-Type is very good. Parasol Stars is a sort-of sequel to Bubble Bobble/Rainbow Islands, and is fun.

i love the turbo grafx-16. great system, still got my duo.... alot of great shooters for the turbografx.

some of my fav hucard games are-

splatterhouse
blazing lazers
legendary axe
neutopia 1 and 2
sidearms
super star soldier
aero blasters
ninja spirit
galaga 90

then... once you get all your fav hucard games, your gonna wanna upgrade to the turbo duo so you can also play all the amazing super cd rom games and imports.

I think Bomberman has a bunch of games on the Turbografx.

I really need to get more games for mine. I only have two. And those are the same two I had when I got it.

The CD attachment is cool, but can be very expensive.

Yeah I know that the CD attachment and the Duo can both fetch a hefty price on ebay. I'll probably just buy a Duo in the future, I just didn't feel like spending that much right now.

Nothing above that I wouldn't recommend.

...

Splatterhouse
Bonk 1
Bonk 2
Bonk 3
Dracula X
Gain Ground
Cotton
neutopia 1
neutopia 2
galaga 90

my favorite system ever btw.

The TG is my fave console of all time--way ahead of its time and underappreciated in the US. You can also play Japanese PC Engine games on it with an adapter cartridge (that simply switches 1 or 2 pairs of contacts on the HuCards, as I recall). I have a TON of TG/PCE/Duo games. And a TurboExpress handheld (plays the same HuCards). And a NIB shrinkwrapped Duo. :D

As for my faves, the shootemups on the TG are second to none. Great platformers too. From memory, here are many games I really like on the TG (many of which are already mentioned):

Shmups (they're all good on the TG!):
Blazing Lazers
Cyber Core
Dragon Spirit
Dead Moon
Galaga 90
Psychosis
R-Type
Soldier Blade
Super Star Soldier
Star Parodia (PCE)

Pinball:
Devil's Crush
Time Cruise II
Alien Crush (although the table is 2 screens high and flips instead of scrolls)

Platformers/rpgs/action:
Bonk, Bonk's Revenge, Bonk 3
Bloody Wolf
JJ&Jeff (funny! Japanese version, Kato & Ken, is a bit lewder)
Legendary Axe 1&2
Neutopia 1&2
Splatterhouse

Misc:
Chase HQ (excellent racer)
Victory Run (racer)
Moto Roader (racer)
Any Bomberman game
Klax (action puzzle)
Power Golf
Military Madness (*excellent* turn-based battle game, like Advance Wars on the GBA)
OutRun (PCE racing)

BTW, I HIGHLY recommend checking out some of the TG/Duo games on the Wii arcade. 2 great shooters (released on the TG) are Gates of Thunder (killer soundtrack) and Lords of Thunder. I've dl'd many TG games that I own, because they are easier to play thru the Wii and look fine on the big screen.

totally agree with you on this one....

LORDS OF THUNDER has one of the best heavy metal sound tracks ever.

damn, all this turbo talk makes me wanna break out my duo (once i'm off work).

Best game I ever saw with a TG16 was a roommate get frustrated that it wouldn't work so he unplugged the console and took it out into the yard behind the apartments and kicked it like a soccer ball for about 20 minutes. When he came back in he hooked it up for yucks and it worked! Last I heard, it was still working.

Never say that carefully coordinated seemingly random acts of senseless violence don't have a chance of fixing electronics....

Of course, the systems were more durable back then - especially controllers. I had several systems get banged around big time that might look like hell, but have never stopped working. And I have controllers that rightfully should have stopped working 20 years ago due to game rage as a kid. Now days, you look at a controller wrong and it stops working.

NES controllers were damn near indestructible.
