Best Stand-Up Racing Game?

Pole Position I, Pole Position II and Outrun.

I love Virtual Racing, but I never played the stand up version.

I'd avoid most Taito driving games. No offense...and I love Chase H.Q's concept...but they have a thing for making driving games that don't feel like you're driving anything. Steering on most of their games feels less like you're steering and more just generally turning the steering wheel in a vaguely correct position. Just my opinion of course.

I would figure out a way to make room and get a sit down game. A sit down driver with force feedback is a much more satisfying experience, in my opinion. And if someone has the room, the twin unit is the way to go.

I actually prefer arctic thunder to hydro thunder, but both are cool games worthy of anyone's collection.

For sure, whenever possible a sit-down creates the best conditions for a racing/driving game.

And I don't know why, but for some reason I always feel like a tool on a bench style sit-down (like Artic and Stun Runner). I always feel so exposed, like everyone is looking at my ass crack while I'm on one. LOL.

My two cents: Virtua Racing, it's a blast if you want a racing game.

Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road especially when playing w/ friends.

World Rally, Speed Buggy, Indy Heat, Out Run, Turbo Out Run, Super Sprint.

Also, it's not strictly racing, but I have a soft spot for Chase HQ.

Pole Position is great. Not only is the game itself a lot of fun, but since it almost never works, you get to invent your own game using your imagination! It can be anything you want, just stare into the scrambled RAM error screen and turn the wheel and push on the pedal (you'll have to make your own vroom vroom noises), but the powers of your imagination are limited! Just think of all the creative fun you can have with Pole Position!
