I want to add one more game to my collection. (besides converting my NBA JAM to a MAximum Hangtime) I want to put in a racing / driving game. I really don't have the room for a sit-down so I want your opinion. What is the best stand up driving game? I like the newer graphics but some of the old calssics are great too.

best stand up racing type game but its not really racing would be crazy taxi

A stand up version of Hydro Thunder? Although the bass from the subwoofer in the seat really does make a nice effect, so the stand up loses that.

My contribution to this thread is Super offroad. Those of you who said Outrun are incorrect. Outrun is not a 'racing' game, it is a 'driving' game according to the manual.

OP asks for Racing/Driving games. So I don't think he cares as long as it's a car.

I'll throw in one more vote to Super Off Road. Also Danny Sullivan's Indy Heat, which is like Off Road but with indy cars. It's basically the same game. I really like the top-down or isometric driving games for upright cabs. Great 1000 Mile Rally and similar titles.

I was gonna say the same two games. Great multiplayer games.

rush 2049 is the best sitdown and they did make an upright version.. So 2x winner.

Hydrothunder upright would also be a good choice.

I agree.

Rush 2049 comes in an upright. Probably one of the more expensive options compared to the older games, though.

I would figure out a way to make room and get a sit down game. A sit down driver with force feedback is a much more satisfying experience, in my opinion. And if someone has the room, the twin unit is the way to go.

I actually prefer arctic thunder to hydro thunder, but both are cool games worthy of anyone's collection.

I always preferred Indy Heat because the pit stops were fun, especially bumping another driver out of his pit stall.

If it wasn't too tall for my basement I would love an Indy Heat. I used to play it all the time when younger. If Daytona wasn't limited to 3 tracks I would probably like that one. Hydro Thunder isn't a bad choice. Didn't know they made it in an upright though. Anybody ever heard if EA Nascar Arcade was ever made in an upright version?

Thanks to all for the input

Virtua Racing

I have two functional Virtua Racing Uprights that are linked, and one more that I am in the process of repairing. I got all three for a total of $800 overall, so for the money, I vote Virtua Racing.
