As most PC-10 owners know, if you don't select a game from the menu as soon as you fire your machine up, your game's 'attract mode' is basically the game menu on a green background burning into your screen with no movement, scene shift or sound. Boring. On the other hand, if you select a game from the game menu, you get to keep the attract mode from that game running until you either reset it or change it to a different game. What cart do you think has the best attract mode? Doesn't have to be a game you play all that much, just which cart's attract mode would you most like to have running while your PC-10 is on but isn't being played? Mine is Metroid, hands down. The sweet title screen, the music, the animations. Love it. Makes my PC-10 seem more like a real arcade game when I have that game's attract mode selected. (Ironic as Metroid is basically ONLY a console game)

Believe it or not, Pro Wrestling is my favorite so far. I only have 8 games, and I rarely play Pro Wrestling, so mine is a limited sample.

My favorite is Kung Fu. Because it is silent. I accidentally picked Metroid one time and I was ready to murder someone within 30 minutes. That song is maddening.

Another 'silent attract mode' guy eh? What is it with you Mass Fellows? Do you allow game sounds to be on when people play your games? Or do you turn those off too?

Like John, I would say Kung Fu. With Kung Fu Master as its basis, it offers a great arcade attract mode. I never thought about Punch Out, that is probably a good one... I have also setup Goonies in attract, that one screams NES in a good way.

Metroid is one of my favorite games of all time, but I would agree that it would be too noisy.

Has anyone ever tried to figure a way to reprogram the PC10 system to rotate the games automatically from the start?

I have all my games audio set to on in attract mode, I don't mind it. Metroid I think would be tough to handle in long spurts. Just as Qbert Is.

Gotta be TMNT. That song gets me hyped.

Edit: Take your machine off of freeplay, it has a regular attract mode that cycles through all the games.

I like attract sounds on a few games. Not all of them. It's just too much. Like, I love Pole Position's attract sounds. It's not annoying. It comes on every so often and then goes away for awhile. That's perfect. That Metroid theme song, after awhile, will drive you insane. It's torture. It never stops.

As shoeps and Ghostnuke already mentioned, the PC attract mode does cycle through all games when not in free play. You can also switch between silent attract mode and sound. The downside, for all you folks with modded BIOS chips, is that the machine has to stay in free play mode. The moral of the story is: never mess with a good thing.

And shoeps, that free-play mod idea is effing awesome! Thanks for sharing!

I agree with you. The sounds can get to be a bit much. TMNT: Turtles in Time is the fucking worst. That "pizza power" song plays over and over and over and over and over. You want to kill yourself after 5 mins.

Imagine this on constant loop for an 8 hour arcade party:

Eh, I don't know what John's smoking but this MASS guy is +1 for METROID.

On the flip side, the first game in my PC10 is Dr. Mario and I know when I turn on the main power to the 'cade if I don't switch it the SUPER annoying Dr. Mario music will start and it's like fingernails on a chalkboard to me!

I actually put in one Of Adam C's COINUP free play mods in my dual monitor PC10.
That way I don't lose attract mode.
The mod bios chip stinks for the dual monitor set up IMO.

That's awesome as fuck. I don't have a TiT board, but I'm going to play that on loop for 8 hours just because.

Edit: fuck it, I'm going to play it again right now.

Yeah I should have added "have a PC-10 and have it set to freeplay." Forgot about that part. Freeplay is awesome as it bypasses the timer, but the attract mode then sucks unless you select a game. I 100% agree on Dr. Mario's attract mode. That whiny synth sound is the worst. It's exactly the same on the Vs. version, so It's real hard to keep my Red Tent on if no one is playing it. Sweet game though.

More power to you, brother. I cant stand that song anymore.

Whoah...I wasn't expecting to hear that much speech. The most I've ever heard in the intro to a PC10 game. Was it the same for the NES cart?

Sorry, thats not a PC-10 game, I was just using it as an example of how attract mode can be "too much."
