Where's the best place to buy 7400 series ICs from? Next to Bob Roberts, that is, because for us overseas buyers his "no credit card, no-PayPal" policy makes buying from him difficult (sadly).

Thanks, Dominic

I've had good experinces with all of the above. Great plains was slow on shipping once.

It's funny, I Work at Texas Instruments, and we make TTL, but I can't buy direct.. lol..

You'd think we'd have huge bins of those things here, but we don't.

Yeah, that Great Plains guy can be slow at times. I think it's mainly due to him having a game called "Spider" on the same computer used for processing orders... or maybe the guy is just plain slow! :)

Anyways - I've worked for Harris Corp for about 25 years. Harris used to make IC's - it bought out GE Semiconductor, RCA, Intersil and a few others and had a pretty good IC operation going. For me, it was also equally difficult to get IC's from my own employer. Heck, Harris wouldn't even give it's own employees Data Books (before internet datasheet days). Awhile back, Harris sold off most of its IC operations to a small, unknown company called Texas Instruments. :p
Several of my former coworkers ended up working for TI. Now whenever I buy IC's -- Texas Instruments is always the first company on my desired source list....and I often pay a tiny bit more for the parts for that preference.

Small world. :) I think Harris might finally be out of the IC business now for good since we sold Semiconductor across the street to Intersil.

While I usually buy from Ed first, you might want to look at Newark Electronics, they have a sales office for your part of the world:

New Zealand

2 Ferngrove Place,
South Granville NSW 2142 Australia
T: +64 9 913 6222
F: +64 9 913 6221
E: [email protected]
W: nz.newark.com

It might save you some shipping costs, but then again, it might not.

Thanks, Ken. I'll check out their prices and compare them to GP's. Luckily, shipping ICs isn't as expensive as shipping boards and the like, so I'm not too worried about having to get my supplies from the States.
