Who has the best switcher for a Nintendo DK cab?

I just recently picked up and DJ Jr board and I'd like to but it in my DK Cab and switch between the two to play. I dont have the space for a dedicated cab so this is my best option...

Thx

or sell both boards and get a Double DK boardset :)

I have had very good luck with the Vector Labs switcher I purchased from Joe at High Score Saves. A tad spendy after you purchase all the needed adapters....but is rock solid AND has some monitor adjustments per board which is nice.

Just my .02

I have VL switcher as well but not sure if mark was quite selling his yet. I only need two boards switched so likely would have gone with his kit at time and it is less expensive.

However, Joe's service and shipping is 2nd to none and would say he has made all VL products easier to acquire.

I am pretty sure the audio levels are compensated for on the VL kit can't remember why this was important but could be a unique feature there.

I personally wouldn't do the double dk mod. some say the sound differences bother them, but would just rather not modify a perfectly good working board set.

Don't forget Jim RiddledTV is working on one as well. Should be in the price range of his konami switcher.

Nintendo switcher

I have the Spaeth one and it works flawlessly.

I also have a vector labs switcher love it haven't had any problems with it . I am going to be ording off high score saves he sells them also now

I'm just at the starting point for designing an 8-way Nintendo (and other) switcher. Are the R-G-B adjustment pots really desirable for Nintendo boards?

I would be interested in cheaper switcher. With all the parts for the VL that i would need just to switch my ddk pcb to dk3 it ends up being rather expensive plus a pin to edge adapter.

I have been eyeing it for awhile but have not pulled the trigger.

Kidda in the same boat....

The switcher is $85-95 + $55 for each adapter...+ $200 for each PCB...

A rather expensive DK cab. lol

I can say that the pots on the VL switcher were great for me. Actually, I think they were more like vertical hold/position adjustments on the pcb adapters...honestly dont remember exactly.

The DK and Jr boards were just a bit different where the games actually displayed on the monitor if I recall...I was able to dial them both in perfectly.

Riddled...I am just itching to buy a jamma switcher from you :) need to find a cab first. Love what you been doing with those!

I am kind of surprised that an 8 way switcher would be that popular...seems to me like 4 would be about the max...but hey...what do I know? (For the Nintendo)

I have the vector labs switcher in my DK jr. I can run all three DK's, plus Doom. It is pricey, but the room saved is worth it. Plus who does not want to play kong three ways?

Thanks for all the valuable information. This is definitely one of my future projects. I want to retain the originality of a dedicated DK machine, but be able to play DKJ on it as well.

A bit late to the party, but here's one more thumbs-up for the Vector Labs switcher. I bought one direct from Mike, and though it took a while to arrive, it was well worth the wait.

Just recently, I picked up one more, and gave another one as as a gift. This time I got them from Joe at HighScoreSaves.com, who I officially name a "Good Guy", even though I have always bought stuff from him just before he offers a deal. :)

It's the best of all worlds: an excellent product from an excellent seller.

The double DK board makes your DK use DK Jr. sounds. It's kind of like playing Mortal Combat and and Johnny Cage is yelling "ha-douken". Not for me.

The vector lab kit is expensive but well designed. The adjustment pot allows you to normalize the volume between your PCBs, which can be drastically different for each game. But yep, for just DK and DK Jr. it starts to get expensive. Add DK3 and you get a little more bang for your buck. Add a 4th game and you get a little more.

You can add a JAMMA pcb as well but these don't always integrate as well. For example, I've got TMNT running in my horizontal cab and the black levels don't go deep enough to get me a great picture. The RGB pots on the jamma adapter board really helped me dial in the color but the contrast is a tad on the light side. Switching between games leaves you with this scenario where none of the games are exactly dialed in.

There is also some brightness/contrast difference between Vs. and Popeye/Mario Bros. but it's MUCH less pronounced than with the JAMMA pcbs.

In my opinion the Vector Switcher is optimal for a DK, DK Jr., DK 3 cab because there are absolutely no compromises. Once you get into using it for horizontal Nintendo games you have to start compromising a little on brightness and controls (using 8-way Vs. or Playchoice sticks for Popeye and Mario). Once you get into non-Nintendo games there may be even greater compromises depending on the game.

red , red , pee the bed.

Who ever said this hobby was about saving money?

Vectorlabs is the ONLY person who currently sells a DK switcher worth owning, period.
