I said I was done buying arcades while I focused on picking up a few pins to add to the collections but ended up getting a sweet deal on a 4 Slot Neo Geo today. It came with
161-1
Fatal Fury
World Heros
Samurai Showdown
Samurai Showdown 2
Those 4 games are on the 161-1 cart so no need to put them in there. So figure I'll sell them or trade them for something not in the 161.
I never really played NeoGeo except for Baseball Stars and the Metal Slug series so I don't know what the must have games are and what ones are not on the multi cart. Have kids ranging from 15yr-7yr and they play a lot. No need to add anymore fighting games (we already have KI1/2 and MK2 plus about 70 fighters on the multi cart). So what's some good games I should put in the other 3 slots?

Thanks
Tim

Well there you go. IIRC Baseball Stars 2 is on the 161 but Baseball Stars (the original) is not. It's a worthy addition.

So is Windjammer. IIRC it's not on the 161.

Another to consider is Dodgeball ... again, I don't think it's on the 161.

There is another that is #1 where #2 is on the 161 but #1 is not... I just can't remember the name of it... it's a 3D isometric view type game...

metal slug 5. but honestly I took out my 161-1 and just play dedicated carts. Only put the 161-1 in to play nightmare or neo mr. do. (edit..which I don't have carts for yet)

Scrap the 161 in 1 cart and buy a Darksoft Neo Multi and play every game on the Neo Geo...

Of course it's not released yet...

:D

Huh. Learn something new every day. I thought there were only 161 Neo Geo games, hence the odd amount of games.

The Metal Slugs are my absolute favorite NG games.

half the games on those multi-carts are shitty hacked/incomplete duplicate versions

IMO the Darksoft Neo Geo project is the future for Neo Geo enthusiasts. i love my 4-slot, but i won't cry the day i can shelf the PCB and fit it with Darksoft's kit.

There are lots, here are a few I like.

Waku Waku 7 and Galaxy Fight. Two unusual fighters from Sunsoft. Galaxy Fight with a space theme, different gravity on different planets. and infinite right/left scrolling; Waku Waku 7 is has an intense "weird Japanese" vibe, with girls riding weird rabbity things and robot maids. Both really great, fantastic graphics, unusual fighting games.

Shock Troopers -- War shooter, probably most similar to Heavy Barrel.

Riding Hero -- Hang-On style third-person motorcycle racer. One of the few games that supports linking cabinets for multi-player games. Which you can't do with the multi-cart anyway.

The Super Spy -- Similar vein to Crossed Swords (which is similar, sort of, to Punch-Out), but with a spy theme.

Twinkle Star Sprites -- Another "Japanese weird" game. Head-to-head puzzle/shooter. If it sounds weird, it's because it is.

Several of these are on the 120-in-1 cart.

Well, here's the list of all NeoGeo games not on the 161-in-1. A bunch of them are mahjong games, or Irritating Maze, which you can't play in a normal cab anyway. I put an asterisk next to games I think are worth looking for, YMMV.

Out of that list I think 3 of the standouts are from the first batch of carts released for the Neo-Geo:

Magician Lord
Nam 1975
Super Spy

Nam 1975 and Super Spy are still pretty reasonable, Magician Lord is kind of pricey now.

I so wanted to like Magician Lord... it's exactly the game I "SHOULD" like...but every time I try to like it... I walk away disappointed.
