I have a Mortal Kombat II dedicated cabinet and just picked up a Killer Instinct dedicated cabinet and I really want to replace the joysticks with a good solid joystick. The killer instinct cab has a joystick that seems brand new and has a perfect feel. If I can find our ehat ever that joystick is I would purchase more. I cant seem to find a name or logo or even numbers on it. So I really dont have a way to identify it.

I just bought the happ ultimate 8 way joysticks and hate them. They are way too loose feeling and they are taller then the originals. Also the eclip snapped in half while installing it. I really like that stiffer feel you get from original joysticks. After doing some searching it sounds like the Happ Competition Joystick is the best fit. I also found the GGG smoothstick joystick, its double the price but sounds like it might be a really good feel, they also claim its silent. I found those at http://groovygamegear.com/

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Both sticks can take a heavy or light spring. This is the difference you are probably feeling.

Game DOc in Los Angeles sells Happ Ultimate HEavy Spring sticks. Or you can order from Happ and get Heavy Spring.

I used these sticks on my Mk1 resto:

Theses are the euro-made version of the happ sticks; the difference is that nowadays american made happs sticks are super mega cheap, while the euro sticks are made 'like in the old days'. The difference is big.

I just ordered some, thanks man. I hope these are what Im looking for. I just fond out that I can return the happ ultimate ones I bought!

So I bought the Eurostick version of the Happ joysticks which are suppose to be the same as the competition joystick. They are defiantly far better the the Happ Ultimate joystick, but Im still not 100% happy with them. They have that stiffer fell but no quite as stiff as the other one that is new on my killer instinct machine. Its also quite a bit louder as far as clicking goes when compaired to the other joystick.

Is anyone familiar with the ggg smoothstick? http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=332

Is there anyway to modify these to be stiffer?
Is there anyway to identify the one in my cabinet?

Post a picture, we may be able to ID it. Get 2 pictures actually, one from the side and one of the bottom. I think there's a difference in actuators between different sticks.

I see that it has "cherry microswitches" Im sure those make the joystick quoter then the stick I just bought. Here are the pictures of the mystery joystick.

Drizcol, I still think standard Happ Ultimates and order a Hard Spring. You can try Happ Supers, though

That is the best stick for those cabinets. I played KI and MK series extensively and in tournaments, LOL

I have HAPP competitions in my Multi-MK and the IL Eurosticks in my KI. I had the IL Competition stick it uses leaf switches and is waaay stiffer then the Eurosticks. To the point I traded them to another person. All personal preference I guess. I love the IL Eurosticks. They are just like the Happ competition but they always work and are a tad stiffer and smoother.

Yeah, thats why I would love to identify this joystick in my KI cabinet. Personally I think its perfect for KI. Im installing one of the Eurosticks in my mk II today. I think it will be perfect for mk. I want to do the exact same thing you did and put all the MKs in one cabinet. Same with My KI with KI2. I might need some help with that! I think there is a new switch thats suppose to be really good. Im not sure what I would need to do for -5v. Ill defiantly look into that once I have purchased a UMK3 PCB.

So the eurosticks i bought were not quite as stiff as I was hoping. I thought that they came with the happ heavy spring. They definalty were stiffer then the happ ultimates. I ordered just the heavy springs and installed them in my eruosticks and WOW what a difference. These now have the feel I was looking for.

I defiantly recommend these.

Heres a link to both the joysticks and the springs.
