Hi all, i have 1 remaining slot in my arcade .. Loved Pole Position, Outrun, Turbo, etc back in the day, but now i want as modern and realistic as possible. Stopped keeping track of games after the 80's so basically I'm hoping for the modern version of those :)

The more "driving simulator" the better, I'm not interested in flying jumps, cartoon smashups, etc. Any ideas - many thanks!

I was about to post a similar question.

But I also wanted to ask if any of the modern driving game PCBs can be plugged into a JAMMA cabinet (provided you have the proper controls), or do you have to jump through hoops to get one working if all your games are classics?

I know there are some key changes as far as monitors go.

There are VERY few "realistic" racing games that have been released since Daytona USA. Sega's F355 challenge is the ONLY arcade racing game that comes to mind that is TRULY realistic. It can be brutally difficult due to this, so it doesn't appeal to as wide an audience as, say, Outrun 2. Super GT (also known as "Scud Racer" in Japan) would be another good one, but not as realistic although more realistic than any of the Atari and Midway racers. ALL of the Midway and Raw Thrills titles are not realistic at all, which is something that you specified...

go with hydro thunder. you can drive fast in yourcar, but do you have a race boat? lol

Hard to find and not a car game, but I felt my Namco 500GP was as real as racing could get. Motorcycle racing at it's best. It used real physics to control movement. There was even a sensor on the head of the bike which sensed when the player leaned forward and put your on-screen racer into a slipstream crouch on the bike.

Personally, I love my Out Run 2...it gets a lot of play.

Thanks all for the suggestions, but those all seem to be non-cabinet sized, with the separate seat taking up double the space.

If anyone knows of a "Pac Man size" driver more modern than Outrun, pls let me know!

many of modern drivers have upright versions..

you can grab the rush 2049, hydro thunder, crusin.. I would go with 2049..

lol, I read the OP as "modern cabinet", so I thought you were looking for one of the big games. :)

Hydro Thunder hands down though if your going to pass up Daytona.

Those are the 2 best racing games I know in my list. I would also consider any of the Crusin' series too. I like 2049 for the music and style, but I'm not going to gush over it.
