Now that I finally got MAME working, thanks to KLOVer Alky who hooked me up with the right shit that I was missing, I am finally in MAMEland, and I can't thank him enough.

Definitely a ride back in time to when I was a kid, I'm 46, so I am playing the ones I remember from back then and its a sentimental rush, anyway...

Whats the best games to play? What are your favorites? two different questions because I am curious about favorites that others might not think are so great.

You playing on keyboard, gamepad or cabinet?

I like Up N Down, Space Dungeon, Gaplus, Nibbler, Twinkle Star Sprites, Final Fight, Robotron, Pac-Man Plus, Dungeons and Dragons, Golden Axe, Money Puzzle Exchanger, Uo Poko, Thief and countless others.

I've gone threw the trouble of setting mame up on my pc for fun, and bought some stuff to hook it up to an actual cab. I have yet to actually do that. I'm still looking for a cheap dedicated PC to do it with.

I've used my test board to play some of the classics with my niece. Pac man, Galaga, a few others. Easier to just plug in the 60-1 board for those now.

The Simpsons (2 player mode) is one of my favorites, cause I'll never really own an actual cab, it's just fun to play around with.

Way too many games to really choose from to play but due to my NARC monitor being out for repairs I've played that on mame also.

Jr Pacman and Qix are two games I never played much in arcades, but I wear them out on MAME.

Wardner is a game I never heard of until recently but it's pretty cool.

MAME has helped me learn that I still suck at Donkey Kong. I mean, really really suck. Bad.

There was a span of time where I was hooked on Logic Pro for some reason.

I like...
1943 (you never die I have beaten that game like 10 times it never gets old)
super pacman
qix
frogger

The best games might be the pacman games and qix and...what you like from the 80's

I have MAME and I have a Dual X-Arcade controller for my computer and I can honestly say I can't stand playing emulation for arcade games.

HOWEVER I will say I use MAME to see if a game is something I could see myself interested in getting the real machine for. I did that for Robotron, Frenzy and a couple of other games as well. Thats about all I use it for.

X-arcade. That's your problem, lol. They're not very good when it comes to quality or responsiveness. I'm sure you'd enjoy it more if you had a HORI stick or built one yourself.

As far as my favorite games, I'm 35 so I went to arcades from about '88 to '99, during the huge fighting game boom. So my favorites range from Raiden and it's sequels to a lot of fighters like SF2 Turbo, Killer Instinct 1/2, as well as pretty much anything Neo Geo, and a lot of beat-em-ups like Final Fight, Battletoads, etc. I do like the Pacs and Donkey Kongs from time to time, but I prefer fighters.

I have mame in 2 arcade machines and I think emulation is completely fantastic. The games are extremely accurate in gameplay if not difficulty and I have the worlds biggest arcade in my spare room. A complete arcade could be found in 3 machines. A driver/flyer, a fighter/shooter and a spinner/trackball/4way. If you don't mind a frankenpanel, you can get by with only two by combining the latter two.

In answer to the OP, I like Robotron, Ms. Pacman, Mr. Do! NeoGeo Turfmasters Golf, Golden Tee (all variations), World Championship Bowling and Dragon's Lair (on Daphne emulator of course).

I guess its just preference, I understand and appreciate what MAME allows people to do, but there something about playing a 30 year old Berzerk or Missile Command machine that I just love!

Absolutely. But for those of us who don't have the room and/or money to buy all the original machines we would like to have, MAME all the way!

Years ago, when MAME just started adding lots of games, I found out about Son Son. I tried to find a PCB to build my own but never did. Still love it though. Fun on the GP2X as well.

It's also useful for playing the occassional title you have no interest in actually owning. There are a number of games I enjoy playing in MAME, but I play them at best a handful of times a year. Certainly not enough to warrant the expense and room of the same game in a dedicated cabinet.

I've been playing allot of Tetris: The GrandMaster 2+ for its co-op gameplay. Nothing like arguing with someone about who's putting what blocks where. I've also been playing Pipe Dream another 2 player co-op that I've been actually searching to own the pcb.

Cotton 2 since I haven't found an affordable stv cart for my titan cabinet. Its just different then your standard side scrolling shooter(and better then its replacement boomerang which I have).

Play a bunch of games like captain america, x-men, tmnt, etc. At some point I'll get a spare cabinet to run a few of them.
