I'm responsible for a location DDR Xtreme Pro with a pretty bad LCD conversion. It's got a 20" hacked into the 25" mounting point, it takes almost a second to resync when the game switches between 240p and 480i, and it looks awful in 480i mode. We're looking to trade up, but would rather save our 25"/26" CRTs for something else given what a pain it is to get in when the monitor inevitably breaks. I know there are some new 4:3 replacements out there and I know they're also not complete solutions, so I ask you: what would be the best (least worst) solution here? The main concerns of course are latency and how well it handles interlacing; I'm open to using a scan converter or line doubler box to fix bad deinterlacing without lag but cost is a factor since this is already going to be a significant part of the location's repair budget.

Any 30" 16:10 LCD monitor (such as the Dell U3014) combined with a Gonbes GBS8200 running GBS Control. The monitor mentioned perfectly fills up the 4:3 viewable area of the glass bezel and can be easily mounted as the width with the monitor plastic casing is a perfect friction fit, the GBS Control project does near seamless 240p/480i switching as well. (pictures are not mine)

I'm not sure by what you mean.

The DDR game on my route ran trouble free for over a decade. Are you keeping the grilles clean and cleaning out the power supply?

The CRT was never an issue. The power supply - I had to dig out all the dust in that one.
