Sorry if this has been asked a 1000 times. I've searched a little and didn't come up with much.

I want to know what would be the best fighting joysticks for the street fighters series of games. I've always had HAPP competition joys on those cabs and while I think they're just fine, I figured I'd ask as I'm looking to get newer replacements.

Thanks

I just put some Sanwa's in a cab and love them. I'm now convinced balltops are the best for fighters!

I don't mind if they're pricey, and I do remember playing some cabs that had balltops...was easier to do fireballs! lol

But are they tall enough for wooden control panels? They'd be going in a couple of Big Blue's.

They are a little pricey, but well worth it IMO!

most fighting game players on the street raved about the ultimate 360 sticks, the kind that have no microswitches and require a +5VDC source. I don't know if you can even buy them anymore, but I would think Ultimarc's stick is very much the same thing:

How funny, I just realized I had bought 2 red & 2 blue sanwa's from jammaboards awhile back! I'll have to locate them try them out.

I haven't heard much about the 360's, but I would imagine they would be pretty good.

Sanwa flash if you want to pay the hefty 200$ price tag! Best for candy cabinets. Or the happ il For American wood cps

I use both. For me it depends on the game. Sanwa for street fighter. American for marvel vs capcom and mk

Probably referring to the Perfect 360 sticks. Happ still sold them last time I looked.

If you are looking for american style sticks, happ competitions aren't the same ones as they were years ago. Track down a set of IL sticks. Paradise arcade carries them.

Priority is using what you are comfortable using. Sticks in the FGC are like bowling balls in Bowling: it all comes down to personal preference. Do you want restrictor plates? Long/short throw? Clicky or silent switches? No switches at all. Ball top or bat? Do you want what you use to play with in (fill in country you grew up in) as a kid?

Secondary is the type of cab and if you're more concerned with putting in (as close as possible) original dedicated hardware.

Sanwa and Seimitsu are the two big hitters in Japanese sticks. Happ/IL for American.

The only preference-specific recommendation I would give is: stay away from leaf switches for your sticks. Although some American fighting game cabinets may have come with these dedicated (and classic 80's competition players prefer leaf switches), for fighters they can be flaky for execution.

I agree it has to be comfortable. My first post was originally to decide which "bat style" sticks I should use to keep the look as original as possible as they're big blues. But as someone mentioned ball tops, I remembered playing some that had them and found that it was easier to execute special moves, or at least i think it was easier...15 odd year ago lol.

I would probably stick to the bat-style for my Champion Edition and try out the ball tops on the Super Turbo. Not too worried on how the Super Turbo looks as I'm planning on customizing the artwork anyways since the way it's originally "supposed" to look was boring compared to the more dressed up CE.

I'm going to say the perfect 360 from Happ....formerly the R360 from Wico. They don't have the clicks and there's no moving parts....well, except the stick itself. So they should last a very long time. I'm not a fan of the Sanwa's. They feel cheap to me.

This is definitely an example of preference being king, because I HATE playing on P360's. Every time I play on a set of these, I have a difficult time feeling out my stick's position. I'm one of those players whose hand gets lost if he doesn't hear/feel the clicky nature of the switches. People have claimed over and over to me that that is ridiculous, but I can feel the difference and it screws me up. It's the one stick I just can't get use to no matter how much I practice on them.

Some people, on the other hand, can't stand playing on non-P360's once they've tried them. Different strokes...

I just installed a pair of new Happ Competitions into my Qsound Cab. They are different for sure but to me they perform really similar to my old ones.

Like most folks here said I like using different sticks for different games. Most of my games are Capcom games designed for Japanese cabinets so my idea is they must play well with those parts.

Eventually I'd like to change over to Sanwa but I haven't taken the time to research how to install them into a wood cab without it being a pain. Any cool workarounds to make the parts work?

Thanks for all the replies, looks like I'm going to have to "feel" out a few options before settling on one.

On a side note, does anyone know where I would be able to find, same or very similar style, buttons that come in 3 different shades of red?

Would like to see how that will look for the light, med, heavy punch & kick buttons...light red, med red, dark red. A friend suggested yellow, orange, and red instead.
