built a 60-1 icade and love it. the only issue is ms. pac & pac man joystick issues. seems the joystick i got doesnt "move" pac around very well. moving from up to left for instance it seems to not work right on a quick move like that and stays going left. Do you think i need an 8 way switch? And what joystick do you think the stock ms. pac comes with? thxs for your time

The problem is that Pac/Ms. Pac really need 4-way sticks to play correctly. Same with a few other games (DK, DK Jr, etc). The switchable 4-way/8-way sticks out there either suck or are hard to change quickly. That is why I have two Arcadeshop cabs... one for 8-way/trackball games the other for 2-way/4-way games...

There ARE a couple of decent feeling 4-way/8-way switchable sticks over at lizardlick.com, but they are somewhat of a pain in the ass to switch...

4 way

without counting the changable stix, the happ class of 81 4 way is best

I have used several different joysticks over the last few years.
The best "stock" no frills, not too expensive stick I have used is a wico 8 way microswitch.
I define "best" as, works well with both 4 way and 8 way games.

I have used this new joystick that bob roberts sells, and twistedquarter.com sells that is supposed to me a ms pac replacement. That thing SUCKS for the 4 way games when set in 8 way mode. avoid this one, unless you don't want to play all of hte games fluidly.

Last I just got done with a machine that I used the ultimarc switch from the top joystick. goes from 4 way to 8 way in seconds. It works awesome for all games, though lacks nice feel that you get from the others mentioned above.

The original 4-way leaf switch style Happ joysticks are the best. Good luck finding those. I just ordered a pair of Sanwa JLW-TM-8 sticks from Lizard Lick Amusements. They are 4 to 8 way switchable. I think most of the games worth playing on the 60 in 1 work best on 4 way. Pac games for sure.

Another option I actually think is pretty darn good is the arcadeshop.com

Four Way Microswitch Red Ball Handle Joystick. They are $21 and pretty darn good.

The best option is to find a used Ms Pac or Pac Joystick and wire that in.

There are a few games on the 60 in 1's that need an 8 way but unless you really love those games the 4 way ones play a lot better.

Just my opinion though.

Hope it helps.

yeah, but you HAVE to be able to play 8 way, or some games are worthless.

I personally love scramble, and super cobra, and several others.

As you can see everyone is going to have there own taste in what to use. I would just take one of the examples here and try it. It may work great for you and it may not.

I just pulled up the info on my Multipede and I used the J-STIK from ultimarc.com... (it's essentially a Sanwa JLW-TM-8)

http://www.ultimarc.com/controls.html (about 1/2 way down)

It switches between 4-way and 8-way. It works great for 8-way games... not sure about 4-way as I have it in my 8-way cab.... but it does switch between 4 and 8 way.

thxs for the replies. i took the joystick out today and it has a bracket on the back that makes it where only one direction at a time will be engaged so i swapped it around and that seems to have taken care os it. i guess thats changing it from an 8 way to a 4 way? not sure if thats correct but ms. pac works great now. thxs for all taking the time to respond
