Best Galaga repo joystick?

I can't comment on your real question....I have only really played with the original joystick on my beat up cabaret.
But you should fix the title. Because all "repo" sticks are equally sucky because they're missing from the control panel.
  • Repro = repro-duction = a replacement part.
  • Repo = repo-sessed = a stolen or missing part.
Sorry....I silently resisted for years, but your post was the final tipping point, which caused me to crawl out of the grammar police squad car. :)

EDIT: for spelling...and grammar. Doh.

The reunion stick you posted is probably the best option if you are ok with microswitches. If it's going in an original machine you will need to get the adapter to make it fit the original bolt holes or drill new holes. Groovy game gear sells a modified version of this stick that uses leafs that is ok. Arcadeshop sells a wico reproduction.

I play with the 20th anniversary joystick and it works well. Sadly nothing compares to the original Galaga joystick and many have been repurposed for use in Tapper cabs so supply is low.

Sad truth is nobody wants to REPRO these as they are only good for 2-way games and that's a small market IMHO.

I've rebuilt several Galaga joysticks and nothing comes close when you play Galaga on a rebuild joystick, recapped monitor and a solid PCB combo!

I think Galaxian fits tapper, Galaga has a resessed base area for the dust washer.

I don't think there are any good repro's or substitutes to replace the origial galaga joystick.

Meh, I am a pretty decent Galaga player, And I have played with the reunion stick, wicos And of course the original. Although I will agree for total experience the original can't be beat, it's only left and right so I would argue that the difference is minimal. An original wico stick in the Galaga slot would be hard to tell For most (Having said that, I am running an original stick in my personal machine, However, if I did not have one I would definitely install a wico leaf And be comfortable with it). The reunion stick is my stick of choice as a replacement for most games that used a 4 way micro.

This is an original one. I'm not sure if anyone has measured/sketched up the dimensions to build new ones. 2-way sticks always seem overengineered.

I wish someone would come along and make a good replacement. I was wondering if maybe using a wico leaf with some kind of two way restrictor plate would work. I can't find mention of anyone trying.

Paging Takeman......

This looks like some metal stamping, spot welding, then plating. Right up his alley.

There has to be interest right? Or are people fine with whatever replacements we have already? I see there is a 2 way gate option for the groovy game gear 4 way leaf sticks. I ordered one to check it out.

I think there are enough originals around (that can be refurbished, if need be), that there isn't much demand for a repro.

Ask around, you can find one.

Fortunate to have a few original and restored Galaga joysticks. Tried using various joysticks, inclusive of some purposely sold as replacements, but no go.

The way original joysticks "float" (better choice of words I suppose), and feel more fluid rather than left right click click is just better to me, and goes with the gameplay.
