So, what are the best "fighter" sticks and buttons? I have a SFII cab I've dropped a Capcom 18-in-1 in to and would like some nice sticks/buttons to works with...

These are pretty good sticks for fighting

I like the Happ Competitions. The ones I have in my SFII are the older Happ Competitons, which were rebranded iL Eurojoysticks. I don't know if the new Chinese Happ Competitions are any good or not. You can get the new Chinese Happ Competitions or the iL Eurojoystick from LizardLick.

I've heard the Happ Perfect 360 is supposed to be wonderful, but they are about 5 times the price, and I have no complaints with the Competitions. Most of the SFII machines I played in the '90s at arcades had Competitions also.

I don't get too concerned about buttons. I just have the ordinary concave Happ/iL microswitch buttons in my machine, with horizontal switches I think.

I have the P360's on my machine right now, they are very nice. Most of the old cabs though used the Happ Comps like MaximRecoil said. The P360's are a bit pricey compared to the others but they are very smooth and responsive. As far as buttons just get some Happ buttons unless you want the Japanese style buttons. LizardLick pretty much sells anything you would want or need button and stick wise.

Anyone have a preference to concave/convex buttons? I remember the oldschool SFII machines all had concave, but for fighters, I tend to prefer the convex?

Also, both players always seem to have red/white/blue buttons... I was thinking of going red/white/blue with a blue stick on the P1 side and green yellow orange with an orange stick for p2 or something similar since it won't be a SFII cab specifically any more. I am also trying to find a multi CAPCOM type marquee.

Friz, the convex work awesome. They feel so much better on a fighter game. We used them on a darkstalkers CPS2 cab, and man are they nice. Mixing colors is always fun. If possible, try to bring the t-molding into it as well. Pics of the Darksalkers panel with the convex for you to see....

I see you have made the cardinal BYOAC sin and used marble contact paper on your panel. They'd eat you alive over there for that. It's like gutting a classic to put Mame in it over here...

Happ Competition joysticks with Happ competition/convex buttons. The convex buttons are better than the concave buttons for fighting games or any games really.

I prefer Happ supers over comps, however Happ has a new supplier now and all their sticks are no longer made by IL. So idk how this new company is.

Another good stick is the Sanwa JLW Bat Top. A much more accurate stick American Bat Top style instead of the traditional Sanwa Ball Top.

Convex is a must. The only Concave buttons I have are in the Mortal Kombats to preserve the original look.

hehehe. ;) lucky for us, this one had nothing on it but paint on wood. We bought and applied this stuff only because there was no dedicated overlay for that game (beyond generic capcom stuff) and ultimately it turned out to look like one of the greatest looking cabs. I'll send you before and afters havok, if you're interested. But I get your point. It's cheesy stuff normally.

Moving on....convex buttons and happ competitions worked wonders for play.
