Best Dig Dug Joystick

Just updating this because I assume someone else with have this same question...

Happ emailed back and said that the joystick linked above will not work... So I emailed Bob Roberts, we'll see where he can point me...

Welp, I need a new stick for my Dig Dug machine.

What exactly is the problem with the old one? They came from the factory with a Wico 4-way leaf joystick. These are no longer made, but NOS parts can be found to rebuild the stick back to good as new. You just need to find out what is wrong with yours. Or if you don't have one, but a WTB thread on here or buy a Wico off of eBay.

Nothing that you can currently buy new will look, fit, and feel as good as a Wico.

Yep, dig dug uses a 4/way wico red ball 3.5" shaft leaf joystick. If yours is beat, then rebuild it. Get a new shaft, leaves, actuator, and grommet.. Also, sometimes the whole plastic assembly needs replacing as the top and bottom hole that the shaft sits in will be blown out.

I've got all the parts you'll need.. I also sell rebuilt will almost all nos parts leaf joys.. $45 each plus shipping

Or just ask around for the parts.

Shows you what Happ knows about their own products. Ugh.. Fact is that the joystick inked above WILL work but its not right. The shaft is too short and the ball is too small. Any 4 way joystick will work in Dig Dug (your replacing a factory stick on an Atari DD, right?).

If your a purist look for a NOS Wico Leaf joystick. If you dont care and just want it to work....

Me, I dont care. Hell, I'm going to put Perfect 360's on my Multi-WMS!

Or any of Happs other sticks that can be converted to 4 way.

I cant believe the said that stick wouldn't work. Morons. FWIW, that stick you linked is a DIRECT DROP IN for the stick your removing. As in, the bolt pattern is the SAME.

Asking in this old thread about Digdug joysticks, I know they are 4 way leaf but was playing today and I "think" mine is original joystick but from what I see their is no 4 way gate so the joystick moves in all directions but only registers when hitting one of the 4 leaf switches…is this correct meaning you can move the joystick in a diagonal direction where the digdug character (i assume his name is Doug😀) doesn't move…

the factory Wico sticks had 2 sizes of actuators. One would only allow each of the 4 blades to close one at a time and the other was able to hit 2 at a time.

The 3/8" diameter shaft 4-way Wico's that were originally in Dig Dug utilize a diamond shaped restrictor opening and .500" diameter leaf actuator.

The 3/8" 8-way Wico uses a round restrictor opening and .600" diameter leaf actuator.

Had/have 4-way leaf wicos in both mine. Diamond hole base. 3/8" diameter, 3.5" long shaft, ball color optional.
