best deal you ever got, and best deal you ever missed

for dedicated games and pins anyway

best, 7 yrs ago in san diego got a call from a laundro mat, " we have a broken game we'd like to sell for 50 buks, the screen went out, forget the name, its purple and blue and kind of z shaped" major havoc goes thru my mind, lol, and it was a dedicated major havoc in great shape fully working except for minor monitor repair needed. i paid full price of the 50.

pin best , same time san diego, got a call " i have a broken pinball game, its kind of wide and i think its from some old tv show, i want 500" tz goes thru my mind, and it was lol, needed shopping and a few items fixed., i paid full price of the requested 500.

best missed deal,, this one is a high score. get a call from someone who says they have a 1920's rockem sockem robots 1c game, he wanted 600. i knew this was great deal but could not get to it that day, i wrote down his number, lost the number, did research on the game and found them to be worth 40,000 to 100,000 omg ! (and even 25,000 for mostly complete non working)

Best is either the $50 non-working centipede cocktail or the $150 non working galaga. Galaga just had a bad switcher and was back up in ten minutes. Centipede needed the G07 rebuilt.

Worst miss was probably the working $100 Sega Lost World: Jurassic Park I was gonna pick up last Tuesday. He listed it on CL on Easter and told me he would hold it. Guy sold it to his brother-in-law from underneath me Tuesday morning. Said he needed the cash fast. He couldn't wait 6 more hours???

Best deals...

Got a working Ms. Pac Man for free

best trade...

Traded my working Atari B/W Smokey Joe machine for a working Burgertime and working Punch Out!! I was so excited...such a nice guy

Best: $50 working Millipede that came with a Home version Fireball pin

Missed: $100 Burger time that resold for a lot of money.

Bests were the two different free pinball machine I got, from two different people. Neither were a wreck, just not wanted anymore.

Worst was the Captain Fantastic pin, I did not buy when I had the chance to!

Best I got: Some free cabinets/parts (a couple of times)

Best I missed: $50.00 for a working S.T.U.N. Runner - appeared to be in great shape. I drove up as someone else was driving away with it.

Best: Well I'm going to wait for something even better before telling. :)

Missed: $50 nice broken Asteroids (Not what im looking for), A really nice Star Castle for cheap bulk buy. (just couldn't do the bulk), A warehouse raid in Phoenix that had over 200 classics. (didn't have time)

Best: (and only) a working $40 Galaga clone. Needs a lot of cosmetic and wiring work, but it works and is mostly complete.

Missed: Saw a tempest cabinet on the curb about number of years ago. Couldn't fit it in the Hyundai I was driving at the time, nobody I knew had a truck either. Drove past 2 hours later and it was gone... wasn't garbage day either.

Best deals- most of them. Free battlezone. Honorable mention: free championship sprint. Honorable mention number 2: traded star trek voyager (had $66 total into it) for a really nice centipede, decent dig-dug, and so-so ms pac which everything works and looks good except the paint. Real nice bezel.

Best missed deal- free space fury and pole position. Honorable mention: trade 5 untested tempest boards for a working real nice looking asteroids.

Best Deal: Missile Command cockpit for free

Best Missed deal: nice Working tempest for $350.

Best deal I ever had was buying a red Donkey Kong in piss poor shape that was worth $200 tops and I gladly paid full asking price ($500) without trying to tire kick because it belonged to a single mother with 5 kids and was barely getting by.
Yeah - over paying does feel good especially in a scenario like that.

There are some good best deals on here.

The best I ever got was a $50 Legend of Kage at auction. I can't really think of any missed deals.

Best was $75 for a fully working Time Pilot `84 (from SuperAuctions no less).
There were other games I got cheap or in one case free, but they all cost a bunch of money to get working.

I like to assume that most of the good deals I've missed were really fake posters on craigslist. At least on all of the great Craigslist deals I've missed ($100 Major Havoc, $100 QBert, stuff like that) nobody else here reported that they got it, so I have to assume it was a fake (makes me feel better :)

Best: $25 Firepower pinball in great shape

Missed: Really funky juke at the curb. Was gone by the time I could turn around and go back for it!
